SAMANTHA DAVID TAKES FIRST PLACE IN YOUNG AUTHOR'S CONTEST

Samantha David, a 7th grade student at Gueydan High School, entered her narrative essay titled " A Day At The Camp " in the Young Author's Contest and place 1st at the District level.  She received a 1st Place Medal from Superintendent Randy Schexnider.  Her essay continued on to the Regional Level where she placed 3rd.  Sami will be honored at the Young Author's Reception in Lafayette April 10th. The Jr. High students of Gueydan High School met in the school auditorium for Outstanding Student recognition.

The Outstanding 6th grade student for the 4th six week period is Amelia Broussard. The Outstanding 7th grade student for the 4th six week period is Alexis Breaux. The Outstanding 8th grade student for the 4th six week period is Chase Abshire. These students were presented certificates for their achievement. Student photos will also be posted on the Jr. High Outstanding Student Bulletin Board.

LOOSE CHANGE CHANGING LIVES

LOOSE CHANGE…CHANGING LIVES: More than 150 elementary students from St. Peter in Gueydan collected bottles of loose change to benefit Miles Perret Cancer Services (MPCS). The collected change totaled nearly $850. All of the funds raised will stay in Acadiana helping the more than 7,000 families MPCS has served with free cancer services.

Fourth grader Shyla Viator was the first place winner recently at Jesse Owens Elementary School for her work performed during the school's Young Author Contest.

Jesse Owens Elementary School held the annual Young Author Contest recently. The winners went on the compete on the Parish Level.
Three students from Jesse Owens won on the Parish Level:
--2nd Grade - Amelia Hebert placed 2nd place in the Fiction Catagory.
--3rd Grade- Haley Bruce placed 2nd place in the Fiction Catagory.
--4th grade- Shyla Viator placed 1st place in the Non-fiction Catagory.

Shyla Viator's work will go on to compete on the Regional Level.

Pathfinders honored at Black History program

A celebration of Black History Month was held at Hubbard United Church of Christ on Saturday, February 6, at 2 p.m. Pastor Leifer Johnson officiated at the program.
The theme was based on the Acacia Tree, a native of Africa.
The tree, which in Scripture, is always or nearly always described as a strong tree without leaves, anchored, producing and providing food shelter and nourishment. Its deep roots allows it to survive through drought, dryness and famine.
The Pathfinders honored were Victoria Hebert, Edolia Williams, Stephanie Bernard and Ned Robinson.
