Rebels seek La. State Class B Basketball Title

CROWLEY – It has been five years since Class B’s Midland Rebels last advanced to the Top 28 Basketball Tournament.

That brief drought can end tonight when the No. 2-seeded Rebels play host to No. 7 Hornbeck at 6:30 p.m. in a quarterfinal contest at the Midland gym.

“We get a quarterfinal game at home and I feel pretty good about it,” said Midland coach Todd Briley. “I think we will do well.
The kids are fired up and I’m pretty excited also. We’re looking forward to it and I expect it to be a pretty fun time.”

If there’s anything anyone learned from this past year’s National Football League’s season, it’s that you need a pretty darn good quarterback to get to the Super Bowl.

The premiere matchup of the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints for all the marbles in sunny Miami, Florida pitted arguably the two best quarterbacks in the league against one another in Peyton Manning and Drew Brees.

Let me start this by saying that there is no justifiable cliche, catch phrase, or humorous way to start this column, for some things cannot be described by mere human verbiage. All that matters is this: New Orleans Saints 31 Indianapolis Colts 17, the final score of Super Bowl XLIV in Miami this past Sunday evening!

Yes, after 43 frustrating, heartbreaking years, the Black and Gold of the Crescent City has laid claim to the biggest prize in the world of professional football.
