Lula Mae “Momie” Sonnier Toups

DELCAMBRE – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Lula Mae “Momie” Sonnier Toups, age 92, at 3 p.m. on Wednesday. April 20, 2022 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. Fr. Buddy Breaux will officiate. Interment will follow at the church mausoleum.
A gathering of family and friends will take place at the church on Wednesday from 2 p.m. until the service time. A rosary will be prayed at 2:30 p.m.
A native of Delcambre, Mrs. Toups passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at Maison Teche Nursing Home in Jeanerette.
Lula Mae, or “Momie” as many knew her, was a kind and dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved many things; but cooking was her favorite, especially for her family at “The Camp” at Hebert’s Landing. Her grandchildren would spend many weekends with her at the camp enjoying her “ rice and gravies” and chocolate breads. You could find her passing time with her family & friends drinking coffee on the porch of that camp. Lula welcomed everyone and will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her children, Michael Toups, Eddie Toups (Elizabeth “Liz”), Jace Toups (Nita), Virgie Landry (Clayton), and Mona Landry (Allen); fifteen grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 75 years, L.J. “Jay” Toups (who passed away four months ago); parents, Leonce and Louisa Meaux Sonnier; siblings, Wilton B. Sonnier and wife Isabell Sonnier and Bernice S. Touchet and husband Acorn “T-Coon” Touchet; daughter-in-law, Diane B. Toups; and grandson, Brian Landry.
Pallbearers will be Stanley Smith, Eddie Toups, Jace Toups, Michael Toups, Scott Landry, and Jason Dozat
Honorary pallbearers will be Allen Landry and Clayton Landry.
