Kelsey Miller waves to the crowd after she just won the crown.

North Vermilion's Kelsey Miller crowned Miss La. High School queen

North Vermilion junior Kelsey Miller represented her school title of Miss North Vermilion High School this week at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in competition for the state title of Miss Louisiana High School, where she took home the crown.
Ashley Green, Kelsey’s mom, took to social media to congratulate Kelsey and tell her how proud she was.
“She brought home the crown, but more importantly, she represented her school with pride and competed in honor of Ramsie, her high school friend who was killed in an accident this year,” said Green. “I watched my daughter attend two vigils, a wake and a funeral all in one week for her classmate while preparing for this huge pageant, and she left it all on the stage.”
Without wavering her faith, Kelsey went against the grain and showed how brave and bold she was and made her school, family, and friends proud.
Miller is a proud member of the National Honor Society and the BETA Club. She has been a part of the cheerleading team for the past three years and has been in pageants since she was 3.
In June, Miller will travel to Little Rock, Arkansas, to compete for the National title of Miss High School America, and she plans to change the way she approaches.
“I want to be an advocate for those who don’t have a voice,” said Kelsey, “For instance, after what happened to my good friend Ramsie, I want to make a change for Hwy 167.”
Miller is proud of what she has accomplished thus far. She created a breakfast club where teens could talk about things that bother them, like bullies, to have an outlet. She has done many community service projects where she volunteered at her church.
“I am much more excited about this next chapter,” said Kelsey. “I am so honored to represent my school, my family, myself, and my friends and to be the voice and supporter that they could rely on.”
