Louisiana House of Representatives honors Abbeville High Weightlifting Team

On paper, the Abbeville Wildcats Weightlifting Team favored another state title but that did not happen because of COVID-19. The weight lifting season came to an end before the state meet took place.
Vermilion Parish State Representative Ryan Bourriaque got a resolution approved in the House of Representatives during the regular session that acknowledged the top high school weight lifting programs in Louisiana.
The resolution recognized Abbeville’s Wildcats as the top boys’ weight lifting team in Class 3A.

The Mulas: Three successful atheltic generations with local ties

On Thursday, there was a high school senior from Parkview Baptist High School in Baton Rouge, who verbally committed to play football for the United States Air Force Academy. Why would anyone from Vermilion Parish care? Because of his last name - Mula.
While there is probably only one Mula family who lives in Vermilion Parish, that one family has made its mark in the parish thanks to athletics.

USSSA 9-U State Champs

Team Louisiana 9-year-old and under captured the USSSA State Tournament in Broussard this weekend. The team members hold up their hands to show-off the gold rings that they won. The members of the team are Brees Richard, Cullen Durke, Mason Broome, Evan Delcambre, Parker Simon, Fisher Breaux, Jaxon Frederick, Kenley Olivier, Alex Gaspard and Jax Trahan. The coaches are Kelly Breaux, Scott Breaux and Kent Olivier.

On Friday, gyms in Louisiana were able to re-open because the state is now in Phase 1. Snap Fitness in Abbeville re-opened Friday at 8 a.m. and clients saw a new look when they walked into the aerobic area. There was a plexi-glass hanging from the ceiling in between each cardio-machine. In the photo is co-owner Jill LeBlanc fixing the plexi-glass. Walking on the treadmill were Donnell Sonnier and Clay Chauvin.

Elise Vincent

Vincent hopes to go from softball to med school

Elise Vincent, a North Vermilion graduate, was the leadoff hitter for Northwestern State this year. The senior was off to a great start, starting in all 22 games. She was batting .323 and scored a team-high 20 runs. She stole 12 out of 13 bases. Entering the season she was a preseason All-Southland Conference First team member.

Where were you when you got the news the season was over?

I was at my home in Natchitoches. It was the weekend after my coaches told us that our conference game had been suspended.
