Kaplan to have splash pad by summertime
KAPLAN - The town of Kaplan will finally have a splash pad just in time for summer.
City Engineer Todd Vincent of Sellers and Associates updated Kaplan Mayor Mike Kloesel and the city council about the splash pad’s construction and its current stage.
Vincent informed the council that Legal Pools and Spas, the contractor working on the splash pad, was requesting an additional two months because the original deadline for completion was this week.
The council voted 4-0 to extend the contract by 60 days.
The contractor poured a cement slab, and all the piping is on location.
The splash pad will be located in Dr. Gupta City Park at the corner of North Faye and East Sixth Street.
The building of the splash pad has been in the works for more than eight years.
“I am counting 60 days to make sure it will be open for summer,” said Mayor Kloesel. Yes, we are suitable for summer.
In other city business:
Former Kaplan City Clerk Heather Guidry officially resigned as a city consultant and will not be hired as a consultant to help train the new city clerk, Ashley C. Milton.
In December’s city council meeting, Mayor Kloesel informed the council that Guidry had moved to Lake Charles and could not be a city clerk while living there. The city council hired Milton.
However, Mayor Kloesel planned to hire Guidry
