Abbeville officials, citizens discuss recent shootings during Council meeting

Shootings in the city of Abbeville continue to cause anger and sadness among officials and citizens.
Those concerns again reached the table during Tuesday night’s regular City Council meeting, only three hours after the shooting of a juvenile. A family member told KATC-TV on Wednesday that the 15-year-old is doing “as well” as can be expected. The item regarding shootings had already been placed for discussion on the agenda late last week.
“The shootings are taking over our city,” Councilwoman Terry Broussard said. “It’s really, really bad. People are afraid.”

Vermilion Parish School Board to name new board member for District B

Tonight at the Vermilion Parish School Board meeting, the school board will name a temporary board member in District B.
At the start of the month, Chris Gautreaux resigned as the school board member after accepting a Civil Service job with the City of Abbeville. He had been the school board member for almost 12 years.
The new person will sit in Gautreaux’s old seat for five months until a special election is held.

Violent Crime Task Force makes arrest in Abbeville

According to Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office’s Public Information Officer Eddie Langlinais, last week during the week end hours, while conducting patrols, the Vermilion Parish Violent Crimes Task Force’s Criminal Suppression Unit (VCTF-CSU) performed a traffic stop within the city limits of Abbeville at Maude and Schessinger.
The traffic stop led to a search warrant of the vehicle which resulted in the seizure of narcotics and a 9mm handgun.
