Limited public access to Vermilion Parish Courthouse

The Vermilion Parish Police Jury is limiting public access to the Vermilion Parish Courthouse to help prevent possible exposure of COVID-19 to the employees in the Courthouse.
“We hope by limiting access we will be available to provide needed services if the spread of the virus causes more disruptions,” said Police Juror Administrator Keith Roy.
. The Courthouse will be open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday – Friday with the following restrictions.

Catholic Church makes changes to Mass, funerals and weddings

LAFAYETTE — Bishop J. Douglas Deshotel announced the suspension of all public masses across the Diocese of Lafayette until April 13. The bishop’s earlier dispensation on the attendance of Masses remains in place, meaning parishioners are excused from attending.
“Though public Masses have been suspended, our obligation to praying and to sanctifying Sundays and holy Week (beginning Palm Sunday through Easter Sunday) as a sacred time remain an important obligation of faith,” said Deshotel.

Update: Seventh COVID-19 related death reported in Louisiana

BATON ROUGE — The Louisiana Department of Health reports a seventh death related to COVID-19.
The 72-year-old individual was a Jefferson Parish resident. There is no known connection to the Lambeth House.
The State’s fifth and sixth COVID-19 related deaths were reported earlier on Wednesday. This is the first COVID-19 death in Jefferson Parish.
Going forward, LDH will report COVID-19 related deaths twice per day, at 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., as needed.

Abbeville General is continuing its efforts in response to COVID-19 (coronavirus).
Ray A. Landry, FACHE, Chief Executive Officer at Abbeville General Hospital, said in response to an increase in COVID-19 cases in the state, the hospital is taking precautions to protect its healthcare workers, staff, providers and patients.
