Unrestrained Driver Killed in Single Vehicle Crash in St. Landry Parish

WASHINGTON – At approximately 6:30 a.m. on March 4, 2020, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a single-vehicle crash on LA Hwy 10 near LA Hwy 182 in St. Landry Parish.
The crash took the life of 30-year-old Edward Joshua Guidry of Lafayette.
The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Guidry was driving a 2012 Toyota RAV4 SUV South on LA 182 when, for unknown reasons, his vehicle ran off the roadway. Upon doing so, the SUV overturned and came to rest partially submerged, upside down in Bayou Boeuf.

Schools in Abbeville on partial lock down while police investigate possible threat

All schools in the city of Abbeville are on partial lock down while detectives with the Abbeville Police Department investigate a possible threat.
According to Lt. Jonathan Touchet, spokesman for the APD, there is no threat to a specific school within the city limits and this should not be cause for panic. Touchet said the investigation is a precaution.
Touchet said more information will be released once the investigation is completed.

Task Force makes 10 arrests for multiple drug offenses in Vermilion Parish

According to Drew David, the Public Information Officer and Task Force Commander for the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Department, the Vermilion Municipal and Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force made the following arrests for narcotics related offenses within the parish.

Maurice transferring to new water well

MAURICE — Part of the growth in the Village of Maurice is improvements on its infrastructure.
Some of that is set to take place in regard to the village’s water well.
“During the upcoming weeks the Village of Maurice will be transferring to our newly installed water well,” Mayor Wayne Theriot said. “Once this is done our current treatment facilities will be off line while a new treatment facility is constructed.”
Theriot sent out a message to alert costumers of the village’s water system.

State Emergency Response Network explained

Dr. Tina Stefanski has been the regional medical director for the Office of Public Health in Acadiana for the past 18 years. With coronavirus outbreaks popping up worldwide and cases of mumps reported at least two Louisiana universities, it seems like picking a topic to talk about would be easy.
But Stefanski wanted to tell members of the Crowley Lions Club about the Louisiana Emergency Response Network — LERN — which she touted as “one of the best things we do with state government.”
