An Abbeville police officer checks on the driver of the car after the car hit the side of the bed of a truck. The truck was crossing over the four-lane bypass from Rodeo Road. The car was driving on the bypass. No one was injured.

Abbeville Councilmen have concerns about Rodeo Road/Bypass intersection

Two Abbeville City Councilmen happened upon an accident this week involving a vehicle on Rodeo Road trying to cross the Bypass to reach Alonzo Street.
Councilman Francis Touchet Jr. and Councilman Francis Plaisance, both of whom live in the area, came upon the accident, in which a vehicle traveling toward Erath sideswiped the vehicle trying to cross the Bypass. One of the vehicles ended up in a ditch.

Program changes enable more working families to access child care assistance

BATON ROUGE — The Louisiana Department of Education today announced changes to the eligibility requirements for the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP), which provides federal funds to help low-income families pay for child care while working or attending school or training. The changes enable more working families in Louisiana to access child care assistance.
The new eligibility requirements, which are effective immediately, state:
• Families who work at least 20 hours a week are now eligible;

Abbeville police to conduct DWI checkpoint

On the night of Friday, February 17, 2017 the Abbeville Police Department will be conducting a Sobriety Checkpoint looking for impaired drivers and other traffic related offenses.
The checkpoint will be conducted between the hours of 9:00 PM and 3:00 AM somewhere within the city limits of Abbeville.
This checkpoint is part of a year-long grant program provided through the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, designed to improve driver safety and reduce impaired driving.

Scott Vallo to step down as Gueydan Alderman

GUEYDAN — Councilman Scott Vallo will resign as a Gueydan Council member on February 28.
During last Tuesday night’s council meeting Councilman Scott Vallo, thanked the Mayor and past Mayors and fellow council members as well as the past council members for working with them for the last two years and informed them that he will soon be stepping down.

Cajuns’ softball program sets new ticket sales record

LAFAYETTE – Season ticket sales for the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Softball program have once again set new records in both total tickets sold and revenue generated.
For the third consecutive season a new record in quantity of tickets was reached as 1,014 were sold prior to the season-opening weekend, eclipsing the previous record of 1,006 reached in 2016. This is the second straight season of 1,000-plus tickets sold.
