Abbeville announces boil advisory for certain areas on Saturday morning (Aug. 10)

The city of Abbeville has announced a boil advisory that will be effective 7 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10.
The boil advisory is due to the replacement of a fire hydrant.
The affected areas include:
• Coulee Kinney to Hwy 14 (Bypass)
• Bruno Street
• Carolyn Street
• Assay Street
During this advisory, it is recommended that all water used for drinking, cooking, or oral hygiene be boiled for at least one minute.
Residents will notified promptly once the advisory has been lifted.

Three Texas Subjects Cited for Illegal Oyster Harvest in Vermilion Parish

A Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agent cited three subjects for alleged oyster violations on Aug. 4 in Vermilion Parish.
Sgt. Justin Sonnier cited Jose Ayala, 53, of Dickenson, Texas, Manuel Ayala, 63, of San Leon, Texas, and Adrian Ayala, 29, of Dickinson, Texas, for unlawfully taking oysters from a private lease. Jose Ayala was also cited for failing to have written permission to remove oysters from a private lease and harvesting oysters from an unmarked lease.

Vermilion Parish schools beef up security

The Vermilion Parish School System is improving safety measures by adding more resource officers on campuses and implementing an additional security layer to deter unauthorized individuals from gaining easy access to the school.
For the last month, Vermilion Parish Sheriff Eddie Langlinais, school district safety officer Brooks David, Superintendent Tommy Byler, and other parish police chiefs have held safety meetings to discuss ways to make schools safer.

Megan Landry-Lalande sworn-in as National JA President

Recently, Megan Landry-Lalande of Maurice was sworn in as the president of the National Association of Junior Auxiliaries (NAJA) in Memphis, Tenn.
Lalande is a life member of the Junior Auxiliary of Vermilion and joined the Chapter in 2010. During her service in her local Chapter, Megan served as vice president, recording secretary, treasurer, provisional trainer, public relations chairman as well as chairing her favorite service project, “Get Happy with JA!”

Abbeville man charged with three counts of attempted first degree murder while in the parish jail on three other charges

On Wednesday at 10:45 a.m., O’Darrius Greene from Abbeville was charged with three counts of attempted first degree murder for a shooting that allegedly took place on January 2, 2024.
The Abbeville Police Department found Greene easily because he was already in the parish jail for four counts of simple burglary.
