A contract has been awarded to begin deepening the navigational channel for a 20-mile stretch from the intersection of the Intracoastal Canal down Freshwater Bayou to the Freshwater Bayou Locks.
The dredging will increase the depth of Freshwater Bayou, which flows into the Gulf of Mexico, to just over 16 feet deep.
