Dolores was the daughter of Ambrose Broussard and the former Pearl Stelly. She grew up working in the family’s country store on Highway 167 in Abbeville. Her faith and Our Lady of Mount Carmel guided her life with three Carmelite Sisters as aunts, Sr. Mechtilda, Sr. Agatha and Sr. Lourentia. She graduated with a small class of students from Mount Carmel High who remained close throughout their lives, and she later continued to be involved with Mount Carmel School assisting with functions and substitute teaching as her children were in attendance. The Sisters of Mount Carmel were always dear to her and she would often host many of them in her home.
Dolores was married to the late Paul Sheldon Andrus and they resided most of their lives in Maurice. They shared 70 years of marriage and 5 children. She is survived by one brother and dear friend, Donald Broussard. She was a long-time member of the St Alphonsus Alter Society and enjoyed making donated baptismal bibs, as well as, distributing Holy Communion to the home bound for many years. Dolores was also involved for many years in the Telephone Pioneers of America Association and enjoyed participating in the making of Hug-A-Bears for children in crisis.
Dolores was a hardworking, excellent homemaker with determination that could do just about anything. She was a fabulous cook, baker and seamstress but most of all she was an extremely caring and loving wife, mother, sister and friend. Dolores possessed a unique ability, shared amongst her community of close friends, to spot need or hurt in others and a passion to help sometimes in small but consequential ways while never allowing attention to herself.
