ABBEVILLE — Funeral service for Warren J. Montgomery is scheduled for Saturday, September 28, 2019 at Mount Triumph Baptist Church at 11:00 A.M. with visitation from 8:00 A.M. until time of service.
Deacon Warren “Butch” Montgomery was called home September 23, 2019. He was born July 21, 1945 to the late Celina and Ollie Montgomery. Although born in Beaumont, Texas, Butch was raised and lived the majority of his life in Abbeville LA.
Butch was a member of Mount Triumph Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and a member of the choir. He was employed at Hebert’s Meat Market for nearly 50 years. There, his work encompassed various duties including lead butcher. He was a “horse whisper” as he had a way with horses like no other. He was a caretaker to many horses over the years, many that raced competitively. His skill set with horses earned him the credentials of a Licensed Horse Trainer and member of the National Horseman Benevolent and Protective Association.
Butch enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was quite the jokester with a contagious and boisterous laugh. He was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan and would debate their superiority. He absolutely loved a clean vehicle or “nice ride” as he would say, especially his truck.
Butch was proceeded in death by his parents, Ollie and Celina Montgomery, wife Lula Montgomery, sister Geneva Hunter and brothers Orien Montgomery, Richard Montgomery, Alger “L.J.” Montgomery and Herman Montgomery; grandchildren, Mark Montgomery, III and Kerra Montgomery.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his children Sonya (Reginald) Christopher, Terrie (Stanley) Gray, Amy Montgomery, Eric (Hope) Montgomery and Mark (Kawana) Montgomery; His sister Emily Obey; former wife, Lorena Montgomery, 23 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
