Kaplan man arrested after another stabbed

Hunter Harrington faces Attempted 2nd-Degree murder charge

According to Vermilion Parish Sheriff Eddie Langlinais, on Aug. 15, at approximately 7:09 p.m., the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call in reference to a stabbing that took place on South Herpin Street, Kaplan.
Upon the arrival of Patrol Deputies, a male victim was found to have been stabbed in the upper chest and bleeding profusely. The male victim was immediately transported by Acadian Ambulance to Ochsner Lafayette General Hospital for treatment where he was later reported to be in stable condition.
Upon arrival of Detectives, the investigation revealed that the victim was involved in a verbal argument with Hunter Macade Harrington, 26, of Kaplan, when the victim was stabbed in the upper torso by Hunter Harrington. Before Patrol Deputies arrived at the scene, the suspect fled the area and was unable to be located.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Hunter Harrington for the charge of Attempted Second Degree Murder.  As the investigation proceeded, Detectives learned the likely whereabouts of Hunter Harrington to be at a residence located on East 3rd Street, Kaplan and a search warrant was then obtained for that residence.  Before the search warrant could be executed, Hunter Harrington was observed departing the residence in a vehicle and a traffic stop was then initiated. Hunter Harrington was then taken into custody without incident.
With the assistance of the Vermilion Parish SWAT Team and Kaplan Police Department the residence on East 3rd Street was cleared and searched for evidence used during the commission of the crime.
Hunter Harrington has since been booked into the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center on the charge of Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, with a bond set at $100,000.
Sheriff Eddie Langlinais would like to commend the Kaplan Police Department and the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office’s Deputies, Detectives, and SWAT Team for their combined efforts in bringing this case to a swift and safe conclusion.

Paul Minos Broussard

Paul Minos Broussard, a lifelong resident of Meaux, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Aug. 10, 2024, after several years of declining health. He was just shy of his 80th birthday. Most of his final year was spent in Mobile, Alabama under his son’s care.
Paul was born on Aug. 24, 1944, in Meaux, Louisiana, to Minos Paul and Ozite Marie Vincent Broussard. He was the youngest of 13 children, some of whom were adults by the time he was born, which made him younger than many of his nieces and nephews. It was common to hear older kids calling “Uncle Paul” on the schoolyard playground. He was a farm boy who enjoyed being outdoors. He graduated from Meaux High School, where he excelled in sports. Shortly after high school, Paul married his rock, Judy Marie Touchet Broussard, and together, they raised four children.
His working years were spent mostly seven-and-seven with oilfield service companies. He survived a worksite accident in the 1970s and eventually retired from Halliburton.
Paul was a talented woodworker and an exceptional gardener who loved growing roses for his bride. He spent many years helping coach multiple youth sports. He was a big fan of the Tigers, Ragin’ Cajuns, and Saints. He and Judy loved the beach, from honeymooning on Dauphin Island, to camping on Galveston Island with the children in their early years, to condos and cruises in their later years. Sand and saltwater brought them great happiness throughout their 55-year marriage.
Paul Minos Broussard was preceded in death by his bride, Judy, his parents, and most of his siblings. He is survived by his children Karl (Sharee) Broussard, Sandra Broussard (Qusay Al Qattan), Karen Broussard (Cindy Artello), his eldest son Randall, nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, siblings Doyce Broussard and Dorothy Duhon, and a host of extended family.
A private family service was held in Mobile, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of Judy and Paul Broussard to St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Mobile, or in memory of Paul M. Broussard to the Alzheimer’s Foundation. Expressions of sympathy may be mailed to the Broussard Family at 1611 Government Street, Mobile, AL 36604.
