Five Vermilion Parish baseball teams expected to make the playoffs

Five high school baseball teams are expected to make the LHAAA high school baseball playoffs.
The LHSAA will release the brackets on Tuesday, and five parish teams are in.
In Division II Non-Select. Erath (21-6), North Vermilion (17-11), and Kaplan (13-13) will make the playoffs.
In Division IV Non-Select, the Delcambre Panthers (9-15) will advance to the next round.
In Division IV Select, the Vermilion Catholic Eagles (16-7) will make the playoffs.
Not counting Thursday or Friday’s games, Erath is ranked No. 4 in the power ranking, and if the Bobcats, they will get a first-round bye.
North Vermilion is clinging on to the No. 8 ranking in Division II.
The top eight teams get a first-round bye in the playoffs.
Lutcher (22-6) is expected to be the No. 1 ranked team in Division II, and Iota (23-3) will be No. 3.
In Division IV Non-Select, the DHS Panthers are expected to be the No. 17 or No. 18 team and will be on the road in the first round.
In Division IV Select, the top 12 teams will get a first-round bye.
VC is expected to finish at No. 5 or, depending on how they did against Erath.
Three of the top five teams in the Division IV Select playoffs are from VC’s district. Covenant Christian (22-5) is No. 2, and Central Catholic (20-5) is No. 3.
The first round of the playoffs will be Friday and Saturday.
The second round will take place between April 23-25.

Mae Rose Mire

September 26, 1926 ~ April 8, 2024

KAPLAN — A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 12, 2024 at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church honoring the life of Mae Rose Mire, 97, who died Monday, April 8, 2024 at Kaplan Healthcare Center. She will be laid to rest at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Cemetery with Reverend Stephen Sahayaraj Irudayasamy officiating the services.
She is survived by her four sons, Harold Mire and his wife, Mona of Abbeville, Kenneth Mire and his wife, Kathleen of Kaplan, Reves Mire and his wife, Cheri of Abbeville and Robert Mire and his wife, Patricia of Kaplan; one daughter, Elaine M. Lopez (Carroll) of Kaplan; 16 grandchildren, Jason Mire, Keith Mire, Nikki Moore (Shawn), Karen Mire, Kelly Schexnaider (Adam), Katie Westbrook (Gary), Courtney Wolf (William), Chelsea Celestino (Fernando), Shawn Mire (Sarah), Ryan Mire (Bailey), Corey Lopez (Crescent), Casey Lopez (Samantha), Cale Lopez (Brandy), Duff Renard (Traci), Chad Renard (Laura) and Eric Renard; 23 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph “Bob” Mire; one daughter, Audrey Renard; two grandchildren, Cody Mire and Brandon Renard; one sister, Inez Guidry; and her parents, Leodias Mire and the former Eluse Broussard.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Ave., on Thursday, April 11, 2024 from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 7 p.m.; Friday, April 12, 2024 from 8 a.m. until the procession departs for the church at 10:45 a.m.
All funeral arrangements are being conducted by Vincent Funeral Home of Kaplan, (337) 643-7276. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.vincentfuneralhome.net.
