OPELOUSAS — Funeral services will be held for Tiffany Michelle Deville on Saturday, September 1, 2018, at 11:00 AM in the Skip Montet Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home. Hospice Chaplain, Rev. Bryan Johnson will conduct the service. Burial will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.
Ms. Deville, age 29, a resident of Abbeville, LA, passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 2018.
Tiffany worked for Heart of Hospice and was a member of the Army National Guard. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, kayaking, working in her flower beds, and camping. She loved spending time with her family, her friends, and her beloved animals which were rescues, her three cats and two dogs. Tiffany will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her father, Donald Ray Deville, of Opelousas; her mother, Denise Sonnier Deville, of Opelousas; her maternal grandparents, Irby Sonnier and Lou Sonnier of Opelousas; her brother, John Toby Deville, of Opelousas; her fiancé, Shaun Michael Lemaire, of Abbeville; and her aunts, Catherine LeBlanc and husband, Mark, of Opelousas; Mona Vandervoort of Aurora, CO; and Patricia Richard and husband, John, of Clarksville, TN.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Joseph Junior Deville and Mary Lou Meyers Deville; and her uncle, Larry James Deville.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and will reopen on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 9:00 AM until time of service.

IOTA – Shortly before 7:30 am on August 30, 2018, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a two vehicle crash that resulted in two men suffering fatal injuries on LA Hwy 3070 (McCain Rd.) at LA Hwy 98 in Acadia Parish. The crash took the lives of 40-year-old Carlos Lazo of Duson and 28-year-old Luis Estrada of Scott.
The preliminary investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Lazo was driving a 2002 Honda Civic northbound on LA Hwy 3070. At the same time, 17-year-old Caroline Gauthier of Crowley was driving a 2018 Mercedes CLA westbound on LA Hwy 98. As Lazo approached the intersection, he failed to stop, crossing into the oncoming path of Gauthier’s vehicle. As a result, the Mercedes struck the passenger door of the Honda.
Lazo and his front seat passenger Estrada sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash, and were both pronounced deceased on scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office. Lazo was properly restrained in the crash; however, Estrada was not properly restrained. Gauthier, along with her 14-year-old passenger, were both properly restrained and only suffered minor injuries. Impairment is unknown at this time, but toxicology samples were taken from both drivers and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Louisiana State Troopers would like to remind motorists that while not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Please take a moment to speak with your loved ones about the importance of their safe decisions. Remind them to always wear a seatbelt, never drive impaired, obey all traffic laws, and to avoid distractions. The conversation could lead to helping prevent a serious crash or death.

LAFAYETTE, LA (August 30, 2018) - LAGCOE, a nonprofit energy industry organization focused on promoting commerce and connecting people through educational programs and a technical exposition and conference, announced today it will host LAGCOE 2019 in New Orleans, Louisiana at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. The move allows strategic growth for the organization and increased industry participation in the biennial expo.
“The decision to host LAGCOE 2019 in New Orleans is rooted in our mission to cultivate economic growth in the energy industry by facilitating domestic and global business development,” says Greg Stutes, Chairman of LAGCOE’s Board of Directors. “A significantly larger venue will accommodate more exhibitors and an even larger attendee base. This promotes growth, diversity, and develops even more connections among Louisiana’s energy industry.”
The LAGCOE organization remains committed to Lafayette and South Louisiana, specifically its volunteers, sponsors, exhibitors and partners throughout the region. LAGCOE offices and staff will remain in Lafayette and continue to develop new and innovative programming for members. Scholarship funds will continue to be raised and awarded to high school students through the Future Energy Professionals of LAGCOE, networking opportunities will expand, and leadership training will continue for the Young Professionals of LAGCOE.
In 1953, with humble beginnings in the parking lot of the Petroleum Club of Lafayette, a group of local oil men and women came together to create a showcase for the services and technologies of local oil- and gas-related businesses. The show was successful and continued to grow and become more popular at Blackham Coliseum, then the Cajundome, and eventually the Cajundome and Convention Center.

The Abbeville Wildcats did not look too sharp last week in the Acadia/Vermilion Parish Jamboree.
The Wildcats had a few defensive offside penalties, coupled with other crucial penalties that kept drives alive for Lake Arthur.
This past week, the Abbeville coaching staff worked on ways to correct the mistakes.
The jamboree was the dress rehearsal. Now, tonight is the real thing.
The Wildcats open the season on the road against West St. Mary. Game time is 7 p.m.
The two teams have played each other four times since 2013. Abbeville has won three out of four games. The Wildcats have won the last three meetings against West St. Mary.
Last year Abbeville won 19-12 and West St. Mary finished the year 4-6, while Abbeville completed the year 2-8.
Abbeville head coach Kevin Kern is not taking West St. Mary lightly.
“They are a physical team,” said Kern.
The Wildcats, running out of the option, is being led by sophomore quarterback Jaibyn O’Brien. Kern says he selected the sophomore at QB because he liked what he saw at the end of last year.
“He is starting because he did well last year and had a great spring,” said Kern. “He is also very smart and reads the option well.”
In the option, the Wildcats have weapons. O’Brien can either run the football or pitch it to one of his backs. Look for these players to carry the football - Tavion Menard, Braeden Williams or Deion Williams.
Deion led Abbeville last week in the jamboree with 10 carries for 56 yards. He had a long run of 11 yards.
Menard had five rushes for 34 yards.
O’Brien ran it five times for eight yards.
O’ Brien did throw the football four times, and he completed two for seven yards in the jamboree. Kente Charles and Deion Williams had the two receptions.
Take away the handful of defensive mistakes, and the Wildcats’ defense played well.
The linebackers are Kevin Dennis, Jamal Hoffpauir, Chad Celestine and Christian Alverez.
The cornerbacks are Darrian Harrison and Brayden Williams.
The defensive line is made up of Kelvin Shelvin, Hogan Landry, De Ante Wilson and Joshua Landry.
