Shirley Mire Schexnider

KAPLAN — A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Shirley Mire Schexnider, 88, who died Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Kaplan Healthcare Center. She will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend Mark Miley officiating the services.
Shirley lived a full life during which she was a part of many organizations including, LeJeune Boudreaux American Legion Auxiliary (1963-2011), Co-Chairman Birthday Party (1965-2005), Chairman Memorial Tribute (1980-2005), Guidry/Hebert VFW 2792 Ladies Auxiliary (1975-2007), Ladies Alter Society (1974-present), Catholic Daughters of America (1974-present), Kaplan Chapter of AARP 4966 (1993-present), K.C. Auxiliary of Louisiana as a charter member, Eucharistic Minister (1986), Vermilion Council on Aging as the Board of Director (1996), Cajun Area Agency on Aging (1996-2011), Board Member of Assist Agency (2007), LA Rural Health Clinic (2000). Her activities included, Triad for sheriff and citizen, retired senior (RSVP) Lafayette, LA, bingo and line dancing at the nursing home, helped senior citizens in any way possible, Knights of Columbus, completed certified income tax course and certified Medicaid course. Shirley was the first woman on the Kaplan Civil Service Board (2006).
Throughout the years, Shirley worked for the following: Vee’s 5/10 Store (1950-1957), Kaplan Drug Store (1957- 1979), Admin. Assistant at Heritage Manor of Kaplan (1979-1981), Fireside Commercial Life Insurance (1981-1984), Security Industrial Life (1984-1987), and United Insurance (1987-1991).
She is survived by her son, Lenwood "Lane" Schexnider and his wife, Betty of Lafayette; two daughters, Sally and her husband, Thomas Campbell of Kaplan and Linda "Porkie" and her husband, Marshall Hebert of Forked Island; one sister, Doris Mire of Kaplan; seven grandchildren, Lance Campbell and wife Leslie, Bartlett Campbell, Tami and Quinn Schexnider, Jami Scott, Marty Hebert and wife Angel, and Marchell Abshire and husband Marcus; eleven great grandchildren, Mallory, Grant, and Anna Claire Campbell, Lauren Theriot, Bailey and Blair Hebert, Jaida and Austin Abshire, Abigail and Saul Scott, and Caleb Schexnider.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Doris Schexnider; Parents, Angelas Mire and the former Irene Toups; and one sister, Birley Mire.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Ave., on Monday, October 30, 2017 from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 PM; Tuesday, October 31, 2017 from 9:00 AM until the procession departs for the church.

She is survived by her son, Trent Hampton Myers of Kaplan; three daughters, Julee Rose Myers of Kaplan, Jeanise Trahan Meyers and her husband, Troy of Yukon, OK; and Jolene Trahan Harson and her husband, Mark of Lafayette; mother, Wanda Latiolais of Kaplan; significant other, Doyle Cook of Kaplan; four grandchildren, Kristi Lane Harson of Lafayette, Bailey Rene Harson Of Lafayette, Tyler Joseph Meyers of Yukon, OK, and Tyson Lee Meyers of Yukon, OK; one sister, Jan Latiolais Hargrave and her husband, Cecil Currie of Houston, TX; one brother, Glenn Earl Latiolais and his wife, Jessica of Meaux; and two godchildren, Jason Latiolais of Abbeville and Neil Meaux of Meaux.
She was preceded in death by her father, Earl Joseph Latiolais.

Joe Fuqua Allen

ABBEVILLE— A memorial service will be held at a later date to honor the life of Joe Fuqua Allen, 89, who died Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Joe is survived by his wife of 68 years, Olite Guidry Allen; two daughters, Clara Deason of Dallas, TX, and Susan Allen of California; son, Stephen Fuqua Allen and his wife Janice of Denham Springs; one grandchild; one step-grandchild; and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Steve Allen and the former Hattie Rouse; and eleven siblings.

Matthew Reed Pere`

Matthew Reed Pere` passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2017 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Matthew was born July 20, 1984 in Abbeville, LA to Marcus Daniel “Slick” Pere` and Nancy Gaspard Pere`.
Matthew was a very talented individual and an accomplished musician. He wrote and composed several pieces of music. He loved working with his hands and had several pieces of his jewelry and art were displayed and sold in the French Quarter in New Orleans.
Matthew was a 2002 graduate of Episcopal School of Acadiana and a 2006 graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. He also attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where he received his Master Degree in Music.
Matthew leaves forever footprints on the hearts of his mother Nancy Gaspard LeBlanc and stepfather Carroll “Bubba” LeBlanc; sister Marci Danielle Pere` and paternal grandmother Eve Hardy Vaughn.
Matthew Pere’ was preceded in death by his father Marcus Daniel “Slick” Pere`; maternal grandparents Raymon and Lou Vella Bouillion Gaspard and paternal grandfather Luke Ray Pere`.

Vermilion Municipal, Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force arrests two for multiple offenses

According to Sheriff Mike Couvillon, the Vermilion Municipal and Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force made the following arrests for narcotics related offenses within the parish.
On Oct. 17, agents concluded a lengthy investigation into the sale of illegal narcotics inside the city limits of Kaplan, by executing a search warrant at 601 East 11th St.. Upon execution agents encountered two occupants, one of which was armed who were both taken into custody. A search of the residence turned up a large amount of various illegal narcotics all packaged for distribution. John Derouselle, 47, of Breaux Bridge, was arrested and charged with the following
· Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I, (MDMA)
· Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
· Transactions Involving Drug Proceeds
· Felon in Possession of a Firearm
· Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance
· Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I, (Marijuana)
· Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule III, (Buprenorphine)
· Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule II, (Vyvanse)
· Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule II, (Alprazolam)
· Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule II, (Suboxone)
· Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule II, (Oxycodone)
· Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule II, (Methamphetamine)
· Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule II, (Cocaine)

ABBEVILLE — A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 10:00AM at Kinchen Funeral Home in Abbeville for Lionel “Pullet” Reaux, who passed away at University Medical Center in New Orleans on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 6:55PM.
Reverend Darrell Thibeaux will be officiating.
Lionel was born on July 15, 1961 to the late Francis Briggs and Evelyn Reaux Briggs. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Lionel is survived by his four daughters; Kelly Jackson Arceneaux, Erika Reaux Lewis (Mitchell), and Shalane Reaux all of Lafayette, LA., and Lionesha Reaux of Conroe, TX, one stepdaughter: Alaysia Walton, of Conroe, TX., two grandchildren; Dontrelle Arceneaux and Jaceon Bernard, four brothers, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Municipal, Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force taking back unwanted prescription drugs In Abbeville, Kaplan

On Saturday, Oct. 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Vermilion Municipal and Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force, and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public its 14th opportunity in seven years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.
Bring your pills for disposal to Mula’s Pharmacy in Abbeville located at 2619 Charity street in Abbeville or CVS Pharmacy located at 100 South Cushing in Kaplan. (The DEA cannot accept liquids or needles or sharps, only pills or patches.) The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.
This past April Americans turned in 450 tons (900,000 pounds) of prescription drugs at almost 5,500 sites operated by the DEA and more than 4,200 of its state and local law enforcement partners. Overall, in its 13 previous Take Back events, DEA and its partners have taken in over 8.1 million pounds—more than 4,050 tons—of pills.
This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—both pose potential safety and health hazards.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 28, 2017 at the Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley for Joseph Suire, 83, who died Wednesday, October 25, 2017 in Kaplan.
Fr. Clint Trahan, pastor of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Morse will be officiating for the services. The family is requesting visiting hours be held Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. on Saturday. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mr. Suire is survived by two daughters, Cynthia “Cindy” Suire, and Rebecca “Becky” Suire Cormier both of Crowley; one son, Elie “Bubba” Suire and his wife Debra of Crowley; ten grandchildren, Patricia “Patti” Hulin, Kristin Handy, Kenneth “Kenny” Suire and his wife Nikki, Kara Suire, Krickette Garrie, Eric Suire, Lacey Suire, Hana Suire Leger and her husband Brandon, Heather Abshire, and Jory Trahan and his wife Stacey all of Crowley; Twenty-Two Great Grandchildren, Madison and Chelsey Ebanks, Kaden Hulin, Harlie Chassion, Heidie Peyres, Cameron, Chris, Devonney , Gracie, and Tori Suire, Mason and Kyra Neyra, Kaleb Suire, Keely Garrie, Everitt Suire, Kambrey, Valorey, and Lydia Suire, Tye Leger, Dylan and Charly Sensat, Taylor and Brooklynn Trahan all of Crowley; and one sister, Aline Marceaux of Crowley.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Hilda Istre Suire; one son, Patrick James Suire; Three sisters; Rena LeJeune, Mae Rose Bertrand, and Olivia Marceaux; and his parents, Elie and Maya Touchet Suire.
Mr. Joe was the proud owner and operator of Joe Suire Pest Control and K&J Pest Control. He enjoyed his career in the pest control industry for over fifty years.
Active pallbearers will be Elie “Bubba” Suire, Jimmy Quebodeaux, Kenneth Suire, Eric Suire, Brandon Leger, Norman Meche, and honorary pallbearer Kaden Hulin.

Louise (Noon) Bernard Francis

Louise (Noon) Bernard Francis, 87, of Port Arthur, Texas departed on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont, Texas. A native of Kaplan, Louisiana, she was a member of Holy Rosary-St. Francis Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church. She was employed by the Diocese of Lafayette for over 42 years.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, October 28, 2017 at St. Francis Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. with Reverend William “Bill” Ruskoski officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery.
She is survived by four daughters, Mary Louise (Lesley) Dauphine, Mary Ellen Ford, Ernestine (Reginald) Richardson of Port Arthur, TX and Judy Ann (Albert) Simien of Lafayette, LA; three sons, Melvin Francis, Floyd John (Pauletta) Francis, Sr. and Danny Paul (Alice) Francis of Kaplan; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; one brother, Stafford Bernard, and four sisters, Angelina Narcisse, Maudry Petry, Adeline Williams and Susan Hill; devoted friend, Dallas Ford, Jr., and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Eli and Elena Bernard, Alexander Francis, Sr. (spouse), Alexander Francis, Jr. (son), Mildred Reaux (sister), Ernest and Thomas Bernard (brothers).
