KAPLAN — A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Christopher Blaine Blanchard, 42, who passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at Lafayette General Medical Center. He will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend Nicholas DuPre' officiating the services. Serving as pallbearers will be Blake Blanchard, Robbie Blanchard, Joey Blanchard, Rich Boykin, Brady Smith, Ian Blanchard, and Jeff Hollier.
He is survived by his two children, Blake Blanchard of Kaplan and Taylor and her husband, Rhett Suire of Indian Bayou; his mother, Geri and her husband, Donavon Winch of Lafayette; his father, Henry J. Blanchard, Jr. and his wife, Margaret "Peggy" of Lafayette; two sisters, Melanie and her husband, Rich Boykin of Mobile, AL and Christine and her husband, Michael Griffiths of Sulphur; three brothers, Joey Blanchard of Kaplan, Jacob Blanchard of Lafayette, and Robbie Blanchard of Kaplan; one grandchild, Wyatt Suire of Indian Bayou; and eight nieces and nephews, Kristian Griffiths, Matthew Griffiths, Ian Blanchard, Casey Blanchard, Landon Blanchard, Emily Blanchard, Amelia Boykin, and Laura Boykin.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Casey Ozite Blanchard; his maternal grandparents, Henry and Verna Matt; and his paternal grandparents, Henry and Ozite Blanchard.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Ave., on Friday, September 1, 2017 from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 PM; Saturday, September 2, 2017 from 8:00 AM until the procession departs for the church.

LAFAYETTE — United Way of Acadiana will be launching Flood the Love, a community donation drive to collect essentials, in response to Hurricane Harvey in Texas and the consequent flooding across Louisiana. This donation drive is in partnership with United Way of Southwest Louisiana in Lake Charles, United Way of Greater Houston and St. Landry-Evangeline United Way.
The community may drop off donations at the United Way of Acadiana warehouse at 215 E. Pinhook Road on Thursday, Aug. 31 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Friday, Sept. 1 from 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 2 from 9 a.m. to noon. Additional donation sites include St. Landry-Evangeline United Way at 311 W. Vine, Opelousas and United Way of Southwest Louisiana at 825 Ryan St. at the former Social Security building next to the United Way. Same hours apply at all drop-off locations.
Items being collected are:

· Gloves – heavy duty
· Disinfectant cleaner
· Dish liquid
· Trash bags
· Paper dust masks
· Paper towels
· Mosquito repellent
· Mops/brooms
· Sponges

KAPLAN — Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 1, 2017 at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan honoring the life of Calvin LeBouef, 76, who passed away on Monday, August 28, 2017 at Lafayette General Medical Center. He will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend Bill Ruskoski officiating the services.
Serving as pallbearers will be Edwin LeBouef, Jr., Blake Courville, Marcus Cheek, Wendell Cheek, Harry Istre, and Justin LeBouef. Honorary pallbearers will be Timothy Cheek and Tylen Guilbeau.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Nita LeBouef of Kaplan; one son, Richard LeBouef and his wife, Norma Trahan of Maurice; two sisters, Callie Trahan of Kaplan and Nellie and her husband, Peter Cheek of Kaplan; four nephews, Edwin LeBouef, Jr. of Lafayette, Marcus Cheek of Youngsville, Wendell Cheek of Kaplan, and Timothy Cheek of Kaplan; two godchildren, Ande Pommier and Justin LeBouef; two step-grandchildren, Blake Courville of New Iberia and Brianna Courville of Arnaudville; and one step-great grandchild, Tylen Guilbeau.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer LeBouef and the former Ouida Labit.

Harvey is a weak tropical storm, moving northeast towards the southwest Louisiana coast. Landfall projection is Wednesday morning in Cameron Parish as a tropical storm.
The major storyline with this system will continue to be the heavy rain and dangerous flood threat, especially in southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana. Storm total values will approach the 30 to 45 inch range in parts of southeast Texas.
This system is not expected to strengthen significantly, wind-wise. However due to the track forecast, a tropical storm warning is in effect for Jefferson County and Cameron, Vermilion, Iberia, and St. Mary Parishes. Expect to see wind gusts in the 30 to 45 mph range near the coast in the warning area, especially tonight into Wednesday morning. Wind gusts in the 25 to 35 mph range will be seen along the I-10 corridor today through Wednesday, and could extend further inland into central Louisiana during the day Wednesday.
Storm Surge will be one to three feet AGL. During the period of high tides, expect to see coastal flooding in Jefferson County, and Cameron, Vermilion, Iberia, and St. Mary Parishes.
We are forecasting another 6 to 12 inches of rain in southeast Texas, 4 to 8 inches in southwest Louisiana, 3 to 6 inches in south central Louisiana, and 3 to 6 inches in central Louisiana. There is potential for higher rain totals across the entire region, depending on where the rain bands develop.
Record river flooding is forecast on Pine Island Bayou near Sour Lake and Bevil Oaks. Major flooding is forecast for Village Creek near Kountze, the Neches River near Salt Water Barrier and Beaumont, Bundick Creek near Bundick Lake, Calcasieu River near Old Town Bay, Bayou Nezpique near Basile, and the Mermentau River near Mermentau.
There will be a threat for isolated tornadoes today and tomorrow.
