Cake Donations Needed
Abbeville Councilwoman Terry Broussard is trading in her political hat for a fundraising hat to support a worthy cause. She has joined the fundraising team for local athlete Brylee Batiste.
Brylee Batiste is a powerlifter from Abbeville High School who won the National Championship in Austin, Texas, earlier this year. After her win, she was invited to join the United States Powerlifting Team.
They will compete in St. Paul’s Bay, Malta, in the fall. Traveling to Malta will require financial backing to cover the cost of the trip, lodging, and food.
Batiste said she was “shocked” by the invitation to join the U.S. National Team.
“I screamed,” said Batiste. “I am extremely excited and grateful to have been selected to represent our country.”
Councilwoman Broussard has long supported this young athlete and has joined the fundraising team to help Brylee reach her goal. “I’m thrilled to support Brylee on this journey,” said Councilwoman Broussard.
Broussard is calling on the community to donate a cake (or two) for the upcoming cake sale to help Brylee reach her goal.
The event will occur on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at the Woodman of the World.
Doors open at 10:30 A.M., Nickel Bingo will be held at 11 A.M., and Cake Bingo will begin at 1 P.M.
Those interested in donating baked goods or supporting the cause and learning more about the event can contact Councilwoman Terry Broussard at 337-278-9282 (after 3:30 P.M.) or Erin Newbill at 337-298-6616 (text only).
All donations will go directly towards Brylee Batiste’s athletic pursuits in Malta.
“Let’s come together to make a difference, one slice of cake at a time,” Broussard said.
