Vermilion Catholic Lady Eagles put on show in front of next opponent

With the No. 2 St. Mary basketball team sitting in the crowd, the Vermilion Catholic Lady Eagles performed in front of who will probably be their next opponent.
No. 7 VC beat No. 10 Opelousas Catholic 52-40 in the first round of the Division IV basketball playoffs on Thursday.
St. Mary has yet to play a first-round contest. They will play No. 15 Calvary Baptist on Monday. Expect VC head coach Kim Guidry to be scouting St. Mary on Monday.

Third time a charm for Gueydan

GUEYDAN - The third time was the charm for the Gueydan Honeybears Thursday night in the Class 1A playoffs.
Gueydan advances to the second round after beating Oberlin, 48-44. Gueydan plays No. 2 East Iberville, who drew a first-round bye.
The game will be Monday at 6 p.m. on the road.
The No. 15 Honeybears drew No. 18 Oberlin in the first round. That was good news and bad news for Gueydan.
The good news was that Oberlin was no stranger to Gueydan. They played one another twice this season, so both teams knew one another.

Kaplan, Abbeville fall in first-round

The Abbeville Lady Wildcats and the Kaplan Lady Pirates were eliminated for the Class 3A playoffs.
The Lady Wildcats fell behind 12-5 in the first quarter and they were unable to recover against Loranger, the Class 3A defending state champs.
Loranger won 45-31 behind the scoring of Myan Barthelemy, who scored 22 points.
Abbeville was down 29-12 at halftime.
JaLearreia Soelv led Abbeville with 12 points, and teammate Chelsea Stewart made seven.

Patin’s penalty kick proves to be game-winner for North Vermilion Patriots

The North Vermilion Patriots advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Division III playoffs after nipping David Thibodaux High School 1-0 on Thursday.
The match had to be moved to Teurlings High because of a wet field at NV.
The Patriots and David Thibodaux are no strangers to one another. They played one another earlier in the season, and NV won 5-0.
Thursday’s match would be tougher this time around.

The VC soccer team made history Thursday night by winning the school’s first-ever playoff game. VC beat Rapides, 2-0.

Vermilion Catholic head soccer coach Travis Blaize keeps reminding his soccer team, every time they do something great, it is a milestone for the soccer program.
Soccer is only in its third year of existence at VC, and this year’s team is making history each time they step on the field.
