Vermilion Catholic’s Bazar: ‘The guy who replaces the guy’

There is an old adage in football, you don’t want to be the guy who replaces the guy.
In other words, you don’t want to be the person following the legend.
And for everything that Drew Lege accomplished as quarterback at Vermilion Catholic, he’s about as close to legendary status as you can get.
But, Lege graduated in May and head football coach Broc Prejean had to turn the reins of the offense over to another player so the guy that follows the guy for the 2021 season is senior Mikie Bazar.

Lynkon Romero

Romero grew up last year as Erath High quarterback

ERATH -The vast majority of football coaches are hesitant to put a freshman quarterback in as the varsity starter, unless he’s a once-in-a-generation type player.
While Erath’s Lynkon Romero may turn out to be a once-in-a-generation player for the Bobcats, Erath head coach Eric LeBlanc probably didn’t have that in mind when he put Romero in last year to start a couple of games.

2021 All-Vermilion Parish Teams

Two Vermilion Parish athletes had breakout seasons
First, a 5-8, junior baseball player missed most of his sophomore season due to COVID-19. In John Touchet’s first full varsity season, he helped the North Vermilion Patriots win a Class 4A state baseball title by posting an 11-0 record on the hill.
Then, up the road, a freshman shortstop burst onto the scene for the Kaplan Lady Pirates. Fortunately for Kaplan, this shortstop did not play or hit like a rookie.

Claire Meyers Armstrong

Wedding moved up in order to compete in Olympic Trials

It is not every day you have to move your wedding up a couple of weeks because there is a good chance you were going to make the Olympic Trials, which was the same weekend as the first wedding date.
But that is what Claire Meyers Armstrong had to do recently.
Claire Meyers Armstrong and Caleb Armstrong moved their marriage date up to June 5 because the original date of June 25 was the same date of the javelin competition for the Olympic Trials in Oregon.
