Pirates stun Pine Prairie in first round

The Kaplan Pirates advanced to the second round of the Class 3A Baseball Playoffs with somewhat of an upset win.
The No. 18 Pirates scored two runs in the top of the seventh frame for a 3-1 victory over No. 15 Pine Prairie on Monday.
Kaplan moves on to battle No. 2 South Beauregard in the second round. South Beauregard beat No. 31 St. Martinville, 9-0, on Monday.
The Pirates and South Beauregard will meet Friday at 6 p.m. in the first game of a three-game series.
The two teams play the second game at 1 p.m. on Saturday and 3:30 p.m. if needed.

Abbeville’s Ramyiah Malcombe was named the outstanding female track performer. She won the 200 meter dash,second in the 100 meter dash, was ran on the first place 4x100, 4x200 relays.

Abbeville’s Rashad Cormier had a great day at the District 6-3A meet. He was named the outstanding performer for winning the 300 hurdles and 110 hurdles and he ran a leg on the winning 4x100 relays.

Erath’s Jason LeBlanc was named the outstanding male track performer for winning the 1,600 and 3,200 meter races. He was also the anchor on the winning 4x800 meter relay team.

Vermilion Catholic tennis players qualify for state tournament

Vermilion Catholic Tennis Team will be sending a handful of players to the state tennis meet at the end of the month.
The VC girls’ doubles team of Olivia Romero/ Rachel Fontenot and singles player Grace Hebert, as well as, the boys’ doubles team of John Robert Allums/ Jacob Noegel qualified for state.
In singles, William Romero will represent Vermilion Catholic in the LSHAA Tennis State Tournament to be held in Monroe on April 29- 30.

Freshman getting it done for Kaplan

Check these numbers out. .632 batting average, 28 singles, 17 doubles, four triples, 18 home runs, 52 runs batted in, and only one strikeout.
Who has these numbers, you ask?
A senior? No. A junior? No.
How about a freshman.
These are the batting stats for Kaplan freshman hitter Kennedy Marceaux.
Marceaux, the leadoff hitter for the Lady Pirates, is almost carrying the Lady Pirates with her bat.
Marceaux has hit a solo home run and a double for the second playoff game in a row.

VC’s Laine Broussard had a good day at the district meet on Tuesday. She won the 200 meter dash, 400 meter run, high jump, and was second in the 100 meter dash.
