Gov. Edwards announces first Amazon Fulfillment Center in Louisiana

BATON ROUGE — Today, Gov. John Bel Edwards and Amazon announced the company will open its first Louisiana fulfillment center in the Lafayette Parish city of Carencro. The company will make a $100 million capital investment and create 500 direct jobs with an annual payroll of more than $16 million. Louisiana Economic Development estimates the project also will result in 982 new indirect jobs, for a total of more than 1,400 jobs in Acadiana and surrounding regions.

LSU Partnerships Improve Hurricane Storm Surge Forecasts for Louisiana, Nation

BATON ROUGE – During the record-breaking 2020 hurricane season, more people than ever turned to LSU’s Coastal Emergency Risk Assessment, or CERA tool, which visualizes ADCIRC storm surge predictions, to help protect people and assets against flooding. Although the official season finally ended last week, the researchers are busier than ever in improving the tool and preparing for next year—by working directly with the decision makers who rely on it.

Kaplan has easy time against Crowley

KAPLAN - If you decided to stop at the concession stand right when the Kaplan game began, the odds are you may have missed Kaplan’s first touchdown.
The Pirates scored the first three times the offense touched the football and they were leading 22-0 by the end of the first period.
When the game ended, Kaplan had a 59-13 win over Crowley on Friday.
“I saw some positive things,” said KHS head coach Steph Lotief. “We played with enthusiams. I will go back and look at the film to see other positive things we did.”

Louisiana Senate calls for "seat at the table" for emergency declarations

(The Center Square) – The Louisiana Senate on Wednesday approved a bill that would make the governor consult with a legislative committee before extending an emergency declaration beyond 30 days.
The measure passed unanimously, though it is likely to face tougher sledding in the more conservative House of Representatives, where many members believe it doesn’t go far enough.
