Wildlife and Fisheries Commission reduces alligator tag fee for 2 years

The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission approved a notice of intent (NOI) to reduce the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) alligator hide tag fee from $4 to $3 for the 2020 and 2021 calendar years during its August meeting Thursday (Aug. 1) in New Orleans.

Vermilion Parish School Board vice president says Abbeville police would have removed Puyau had he been ‘a black man’

Vermilion Parish School Board Vice President Kibbie Pillette made a comment on TV accusing the Abbeville Police Department of not doing its job when it comes to arresting Superintendent Jerome Puyau.
On Friday, there was a small demonstration in front of the School Board Central Office. A group of fewer than 10 people gathered to draw attention to the fact that Puyau is going to work despite being put on administrative leave by the school board.
At the demonstration, School Board President Laura LeBeouf and Pillette were in the parking lot at the central office.

Former Vermilion Parish school board president arrested by state police

Former Vermilion Parish School Board President and Vermilion Parish attorney Anthony Fontana was arrested this past Saturday around noon.
Fontana was arrested by Louisiana State Police and was booked into the Vermilion Parish Jail for an incident that occurred on July 21, according to the arrest warrant.
He was arrested on multiple charges - one count of Limitations of Backing, two counts of Hit and Run, and one count of failing to adhere to Stop Signs and Yield Signs.
Fontana is not currently in jail.

Vermilion Parish 4-H students compete at 4-H University

With a theme of All Roads Lead to 4-H U, nearly 1,250 4-H’ers from across the state won educational trips, participated in educational programs and selected new officers for the 2019-20 school year during 4-H University.
The 105th annual event was held on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge on June 18-20. 4-H University consists of 42 competitive contests and 10 Clover College tracks. In addition, 4-H’ers elected elect new state officers and regional representatives for the state 4-H executive board and select national conference delegates and members of six state leadership boards.

In the 2019-20 school year, some teachers will train to be mentor teachers, while others will be traine to be content leaders.

2,300 educators to receive training to mentor young teachers

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Nearly 2,300 educators across the state have started specialized, rigorous training to mentor aspiring teachers, provide curriculum-specific professional development to new and current teachers in their school systems, and implement academic interventions for students in struggling schools. Teachers will continue their training at the 2019 Teacher Leader Summit this week in New Orleans and throughout the 2019-2020 school year, and upon completion, will receive professional credentials to advance their careers.
