World record effort: Marathon bingo game brings Alzheimer’s awareness

CROWLEY — It’s official. There is now a world record for the longest continuous Bingo game — and it belongs to Crowley.
While official confirmation from the Guinness Book of World Records® is still pending, Elder Outreach and Team Mergist, one of the top Alzheimer fundraising groups in Louisiana, confirmed that their application to the organization has been accepted.

Vermilion Sheriff’s Office investigating shooting death of 24-year-old Abbevlle man

According to Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon at approximately 6:38 a.m. this morning deputies responded to a call of a black male subject lying on the shoulder of Lormand Road just south of Maurice.
Upon arrival, officers observed a deceased male subject with multiple gunshot wounds to the body.
The deceased victim has been identified as 24-year-old Stephain Brailey of Abbeville.
Sheriff Couvillon says that detectives are actively and aggressively investigating this homicide and are attempting to determine the motive into the shooting.

Bobby Beardsley

Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office arrest man for attempted manslaughter

The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Bobby Beardsley and charged him with attempted manslaughter and illegal use of a dangerous weapon.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Beardsley allegedly fired a weapon at a vehicle with someone in the vehicle. This allegedly occurred in the Cow Island area recently.
His total bond was set for $30,000 on both charges.
As of today, he still sits in the Vermilion Parish jail.
No other details of the alleged shooting were given.

Abbeville getting a KFC

Abbeville’s options when it comes to fast food have increased greatly in the last 10 years.
That will continue with the announcement that Kentucky Fried Chicken is bringing one of its restaurants to Abbeville.
The Abbeville Planning and Zoning Commission approved plans during its meeting Tuesday morning. Later that day, the Abbeville City Council approved a tract division for the property on 101 Summers Dr. The restaurant will be across from McDonald’s, where the old Diamond Shamrock/Valero had previously been located.

Judge Marc T. Amy to conclude 24 years of service on Third Circuit

Judge Marc T. Amy of the Louisiana Court of Appeal, Third Circuit, announced today of his decision not to seek reelection, concluding his 24 years of service on the Court at the end of this year.
“I wish to express my deep appreciation to the people of the Third Circuit, and especially my election district, for allowing me the great responsibility, honor, and privilege of serving as their Court of Appeal Judge,” said Judge Amy, who is from Abbeville.
