Rocks thrown at vehicles leads to arrests for Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property Arrests in Vermilion Parish

The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office was able to locate and arrest the people who were allegedly throwing large rocks from their vehicle and hitting vehicles going in the opposite directions.
According to Eddie Langlinais, Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer, Crime Stoppers Coordinator, and Violent Crimes Task Force Director, on March 15, the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office received several reports of criminal damage to vehicles involving objects being thrown from an oncoming vehicle on La. Hwy 92 and La. 699 near Maurice.

Catherine Blanchet Day declared in Maurice

MAURICE — Mayor Wayne Theriot has declared Wednesday, March 23, 2022, as Catherine Brookshire Blanchet Day in Maurice. The Maurice Museum will host a public celebration of Catherine’s contributions to Vermilion Parish from 10:00 until noon. There will be singing and dancing in the round.

Vermilion Parish School System announces the schools will be closed on Tuesday due to threat on severe weather

Vermilion Parish School Superintendent Tommy Byler announced that all public schools in Vermilion Parish will be closed on Tuesday.
Byler made the following announcement on Monday afternoon:
“Vermilion Parish Schools will be closed on Tuesday, March 22nd due to a severe weather threat that is expected throughout the day and during possible dismissal time. After consultation with OEP, heavy flash foods, possible hail, and major winds are expected. Out of an abundance of caution we will be closed. Thank you for your understanding and we apologize for the inconvenience.”

Vermilion Parish Narcotics agents make arrests after stop

According to Eddie Langlinais, Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer, Crime Stoppers Coordinator, and Violent Crimes Task Force Director, the Vermilion Municipal and Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force made the following arrests for narcotics-related offenses within the parish.
On March 7, the Vermilion Municipal and Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force was contacted for assistance in a narcotics investigation initiated by the Maurice Police Department.

After leading the Vermilion Economic Development Alliance for over seven years, Anne T. Falgout will step down as Executive Director on March 17, 2022. Falgout was hired in November 2014 to get the organization off the ground - the economic development agency had been legislatively dedicated in July of that year, but had no name, mission, or program of work.
