‘Operation Save A life’ to provide smoke detectors to some residences in Abbeville

There are plenty of programs and partnerships out there that can change lives.
Abbeville Fire Chief Jude Mire announced a program that can potentially save lives.
During Tuesday’s regular Abbeville City Council meeting, Mire discussed “Operation Save A Life.” Through a partnership with the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal, Mire said the program will offer smoke detectors to five dozen homes in Abbeville.
“We contacted the Louisiana Fire Marshal’s Office,” Mire said. “They provided us with 120 smoke detectors.
“We can put them in 60 residences.”

Gov. Edwards appoints Kevin Sagrera to Wildlife, Fisheries Commission

Kevin Sagrera, of Abbeville, has been appointed to the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission by Gov. John Bel Edwards. Sagrera, will serve as commercial fishing and fur industry representative of the seven-person commission until February 2028.
Sagrera, a lifelong Louisiana resident, will make his first appearance on the Commission on February 3 when the group meets in Baton Rouge.

Seventh Ward Elementary School custodian had car trouble since the summer, but it never stopped him.
Jerry Plowden started working as a custodian at Seventh Ward Elementary in June.
“One afternoon, Mr. Jerry’s car wouldn’t start when he was leaving, and a teacher brought him home,” said Marlene Primeaux, principal of Seventh Ward Elementary School.

‘Light the Highway for Ramsie’ has gotten Vermilion Parish Police Jury’s attention

The Vermilion Parish Police Jury began making plans for its next meeting on Feb. 16 (5:30 p.m.) because it is expecting more than 100 people.
During a committee meeting on Wednesday, Police Juror Brent Landry alerted fellow jurors of talk on Facebook that people who are pushing for lights on U.S. Hwy. 167 will be at the next police jury meeting asking the jurors to look into getting lights.
