Upon recommendation of Vermilion Parish School Board, Sheriff Michael A. Couvillon announces Scholarship recipient of Louisiana Sheriff’s Honorary Membership Program

Vermilion Parish Sheriff Michael A. Couvillon is happy to announce that Nikki LeBlanc of Vermilion Parish has been named the recipient of an academic scholarship from the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Association Scholarship Program for the 2019-2020 school year.
LeBlanc is a 2020 graduate of Erath High School and resides in Erath. She plans to attend LSU in Baton Rouge and pursue Early Childhood Education as a field of study. She is the daughter of Pamela Dugas LeBlanc and the late Carl Joe LeBlanc.

‘Peace Walk’ in Abbeville: Churches unite to organize walk on Saturday morning

On Saturday morning, a “Peace Walk” will take place in Abbeville, led by pastors and preachers from different community churches.
The Peace Walk, which is not a demonstration walk, will begin at 9 a.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Green Baptist Church in Abbeville.
The church is located at the corner of Martin Luther King Drive and Myles Street.
The pastors are encouraging everyone to arrive at 8:30 a.m.

15-year-old arrested by Abbeville police officers in connection to Sunday shooting

​On Sunday, officers with the Abbeville Police Department received a call of “shots fired” within the city limits of Abbeville. Upon officer’s arrival, officers located a male subject who sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The victim was transported to an area hospital for his injuries.
​An investigation was conducted, and suspects were developed. Based on the investigation, an arrest warrant for a 15-year-old male subject was obtained for Attempted 2nd Degree Murder.

Raegan Germaine Berard

WOMAN ACCUSED OF THEFT FROM EUNICE EMPLOYER

EUNICE — A 40-year-old woman is accused of stealing $45,012.27 from a Eunice business.
Raegan Germaine Berard, of the 300 block of Arceneaux Circle, Scott, was arrested on June 5 and charged with three counts of theft and four counts of access device fraud, according to Sheriff Bobby Guidroz in a news release.
On Dec. 30, 2019, the owners filed a complaint for theft with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.
