The Louisiana Department of Health reported 970 more confirmed coronavirus cases and 24 more deaths in its noon update on Monday.
Vermilion Parish has also seen an increase of COVID cases over the last two weeks.
In Vermilion Parish, there are now 2,456 cases and 74 deaths.
On Nov. 9. there were 2,172 cases and 70 deaths.
The parish has seen an increase of 284 cases and four deaths in the last two weeks.
The number of hospitalizations in the state increased by 45, and the number of patients in need of ventilators increased by nine.

BATON ROUGE – A state sales tax holiday to provide relief for Louisiana residents recovering from hurricanes Laura and Delta, in addition to the COVID-19 public health emergency, will take place Friday, Nov. 20 and Saturday, Nov. 21.
Act 16 of the 2020 Second Extraordinary Session of the Louisiana Legislature exempts the first $2,500 of most consumer purchases from the 4.45% state sales tax. The exemption applies to in-store purchases as well as transactions completed online or by telephone.
Eligible transactions include:

​On Nov. 17, 2020 at approximately 8 p.m., officers of the Abbeville Police Department responded to the Walmart parking lot in reference to shots being fired in the area.
The responding officers located a witness who advised them that they observed two subjects fighting in the parking lot, and a third subject exited the vehicle and fired two rounds from a handgun toward the ground near one of the subjects after they stopped fighting.
