Rotary Club of Abbeville donates books to French Immersion

The Rotary Club of Abbeville held its weekly meeting at the LeBlanc Elementary School library.
“The Rotary Club of Abbeville is one hundred percent behind French immersion here at LeBlanc Elementary and we want to contribute to its success,” said President Robert Greer.
“This is a collective effort on the part of many Rotarians to provide the French immersion classes with books in French. We are meeting in this beautiful library to present over ten thousand dollars to enrich the literacy program in French,” said Greer.

Touchet suggests raises for chief of police, mayor

It has been 12 years since the mayor and chief of police in Abbeville have received raises.
That could soon change for the two positions, both of which are elected.
On Tuesday, during a discussion on the upcoming budget at the regular Abbeville City Council meeting, Councilman Francis Touchet Jr. brought up providing pay increases for the mayor and chief of police.
“This is not something where I want to address it right now,” Touchet said during the meeting, “but I want to put it out for the rest of the council and the public to understand.”

Third Circuit Court of Appeal dismisses Puyau’s lawsuit

What a day for Vermilion Parish School Superintendent Jerome Puyau had on Wednesday.
His morning began with the celebration of the Vermilion Parish School District being ranked No. 2 in the state out of 72 school districts.
At 11 a.m., he sent an email to all school employees praising them for their work that helped make Vermilion No. 2, a ranking no school district in Acadiana has ever reached.
But, then around 12:15 p.m., his day went south after receiving a phone call.

TWO ARRESTED FOR AUGUST HOUSE FIRE in Vermilion Parish

VERMILION PARISH — Two men have been arrested for conspiring to burn down a house belonging to one of their relatives back in August.
James Mire, 69 of Sulphur, was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Jail on Oct. 29 on one count of Conspiracy to Commit Arson With the Intent to Defraud.
Leon Fava, 43 of Lafayette, was booked into the Vermilion Parish Jail on October 28 on one count of Simple Arson. Fava faces a charge of Conspiracy to Commit Arson With Intent to Defraud in Calcasieu Parish.
