Abbeville Police arrest man in connection to August homicide

​As part of an ongoing investigation, detectives with the Abbeville Police Department were able to secure an arrest warrant against Jamie Vallery of Abbeville for a crime related to the homicide of Jacoby Lee of Abbeville on Aug. 21.
Vallery was arrested on Oct. 7, 2019. Vallery has been charged with Accessory to 2nd Degree Murder for the homicide of Jacoby Lee of Abbeville on Aug. 21. Vallery was transported to the Vermilion Parish Correctional center, where his bond has been set at $500,000.

Christopher Broussard is the Junior Cattleman of the Year.

Christopher Broussard named Junior Cattleman

Christopher Broussard, son of Timothy and Gwen Broussard, has been named Junior Cattleman for the 2019 Louisiana Cattle Festival.
The Cattle Festival will be held in Abbeville on Oct. 10-13.
Broussard is a 10th grade student at Abbeville High School. He is the youngest child of seven. His siblings are Jared, Nicholas, Leah, Britney, Marcus, and Annemarie. His hobbies are researching cattle production, marketing beef, raising and showing cows. You might have guessed it, he lives on a farm.

Cattle Festival honors Major Robby J. Sonnier Veteran of Year

The 71st Annual Louisiana Cattle Festival is honoring Maj. Robby J. Sonnier as Veteran of the Year.
Sonnier served 21 years in the United States Army, from 1957 to ‘78.
The Cattle Festival will be held in Abbeville on Oct. 10-13.

Tayler Guidry is the Jr. Parade Marshal.

Tayler Guidry to serve as Cattle Festival’s Jr. Parade Marshal

Tayler Guidry, daughter of Bradley and Aimee Guidry, has been selected to serve as the Junior Parade Marshall of the 2019 Louisiana Cattle Festival.
Tayler is from Gueydan and is an 8th grade student at Northside Christian School.
The Cattle Festival’s Grand Parade is set to roll at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12.

Fallon Lege is the winner of the Beef
Scholarship.

Fallon Lege is Beef Scholarship Winner

Fallon Lege, daughter of Chad and Nikki Lege, has been selected as the Beef Scholarship Winner for the 2019 Louisiana Cattle Festival. Fallon is a 17-year-old senior at Vermilion Catholic High School.  After high school, she plans to attend the University of Louisiana majoring in biology and pursuing a career in medicine. She has one sibling Emma. Fallon is a very active 4-H member who has been participating in the beef project for eight years. She raises and exhibits in the show ring, registered grey Brahman, Red Brangus, and Commercial cattle.
