Vermilion Parish Relay for Life set for Saturday

The American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Vermilion Parish is hosting their fundraising event on Saturday, April 6 at Magdalen Square in Abbeville. The event is from 6 p.m. until midnight.
The fundraising participants unite for the annual American Cancer Society (ACS) Relay for Life of Vermilion to help beat our biggest rival - cancer. The Relay for Life movement inspires the community to celebrate people who have been touched by cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action for lifesaving change.

Stolen guns recovered just off pontoon bridge

ESTHERWOOD — Deputies with the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office teamed up recently to recover property stolen from a 2002 burglary which occurred in Rayne.
“In 2002, a local business was burglarized where a large amount of guns were stolen. Over the years, many leads turned up empty handed,” said Acadia Sheriff K.P. Gibson. “However, during a recent investigation, information was obtained to the whereabouts of the stolen weapons.

Spirit Fest coming April 6 at Christian Service Center

For the third year in a row, the Christian Service Center is inviting the community to gather together for Spirit Fest, on April 6th from 10 am to 1pm at 701 Chevis in Abbeville for a free & spirit-filled event. They will provide lunch, family friendly activities and an opportunity to celebrate faith together as one community. " We have so much to be grateful for, God is so faithful and takes care of our every need" said Director of Operations, Marcelo Davis.

Jerome Puyau

Vermilion Superintendent Puyau applies for interim superintendent job

Vermilion Parish School Superintendent Jerome Puyau is throwing his name in the hat to be the interim superintendent of the Lafayette Parish School System.
Puyau mailed his resume last week to the Lafayette School System. It had to be postmarked by March 20. All applications will remain in a post office box until April 1. Then the Lafayette School Board will call a meeting to review them and move on to interviews.
