State Police arrest Kaplan woman

A Kaplan women was arrested by the Louisiana State Police on forgery and filing or maintaining false public records.
Heidie Stelly Romero, 33, of Kaplan, was an employee of the state Office of Motor Vehicles.
According to the arrest report, she was charged with three counts of filing or maintaining false public records, one count of forgery and one count of malfeasance in office. She was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on August 27.

When will Abbeville’s Lafitte Park open?

For more than a year since the Abbeville City Council voted to give it a name, Lafitte Drive-In Park has been described as a work in progress.
During a committee meeting Tuesday evening, council members discussed when, and just as importantly how, that progress will become a reality.
Councilman Francis Plaisance, who has spearheaded the effort for the park’s creation and is the chair of the city’s parks committee, said things are moving along.

Abbeville Council discusses possibility of taking over operation of Vermilion Oaks

When the owners of Vermilion Oaks Country Club announced plans to suspended operations last October, someone suggested that the City of Abbeville take over the operations.
Nearly one year later, city officials are looking into that possibility.

Improvements being made in Abbeville’s Magdalen Square

If something is happening in downtown Abbeville, there is a pretty decent chance it is happening in Magdalen Square.
Now, the focal point of the city’s picturesque downtown is receiving a little facelift. The city has hired a contractor to replace bricks on the wall and on the ground in the square. That work began last week. Dale Michaud is the contractor and bricklayer who is handling the project.
