ST. MARTIN PARISH – Shortly after 6 p.m. on Sept. 16, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash on US 90 westbound near the St. Martin / Iberia parish line.
The crash claimed the life of 45-year-old Ruiella Carriere of Youngsville.

The Conservation Fund has been awarded $500,000 through the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation’s (NFWF) Gulf Coast Conservation program to complete the first U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Land Easement project in Louisiana.

The Louisiana Cattle Festival Association received an electricity bill from the City of Abbeville it did not expect.
The bill totaled $533.
The month before, that same bill was under $2.
Francis Plaisance, who is the president the Cattle Festival, did a little investigation of how the bill came about.
Plasiance said the bill was from a electrical panel box located on a pole at the Red Barn on Rodeo Road in Abbeville. The electrical panels are used only during the trail rides when campers hook up to them.

Taking a stroll around downtown Abbeville will soon become more pleasurable, and it’s no just because of more favorable weather.
The Abbeville City Council voted 5-0 during its regular meeting Tuesday evening to move forward with a sidewalk remediation project. The city will fund $75,000 of the work. The council also voted to sign an intergovernmental agreement with the Vermilion Parish Police Jury after Police Juror Wayne Touchet pledged to put $10,000 toward the project.
