Scammers getting smarter with phone numbers

Your phone rings. If you have caller ID, you check the number and it says, “Town of Erath.” You answer it and on the other end is a nice man trying to sell you insurance for seniors. You think it is real because the phone number is coming from city hall. But then you learn it is a scam.
On Monday, an Erath resident received that phone call from Erath City Hall. The young man made a sells pitch about senior insurance. The caller ID said the call was coming from Erath City Hall.

Touchet wins state D.A.R.E essay contest

A Vermilion Parish student not only attended the 26th Annual D.A.R.E. Officers Association Convention for the first time, but also came back with a first place plaque and a $400 check.
Meg Touchet, and her parents Alaina and Nicholas Touchet, drove to Shreveport Wednesday to attend the convention. Meg had qualified to attend the convention because her D.A.R.E. Essay was selected as the best essay in the 8-parish Acadiana area.
It is the first time a Vermilion parish student has
qualified to reach the state level.

Shawn’s Cajun Meats gets $800,000 check for new Delcambre business

:DELCAMBRE - The Iberia Industrial Development Foundation (IDF) presented Shawn’s Cajun Meats and Grocery with a $800,000 check by Iberia Parish President, M. Larry Richard.
Back in 2013, IDF and Iberia Parish Government collaborated with the Town of Delcambre and the Twin Parish Port District, along with several other partners, in what could only be described as a true group venture, when the “Delcambre Property Elevation for Economic Development Project” was created.

Unrestrained Driver Killed in Single Vehicle Crash

ST. LANDRY PARISH – On July 12, 2017, shortly before 9:30 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I responded to a single vehicle injury crash on LA 105 south of LA 10 in St. Landry Parish.
The preliminary investigation revealed 19-year-old Phillip Peoples Jr. of Buras, was operating a 2000 Acura TL northbound on LA 105. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle traveled across the centerline and southbound lane of travel. The vehicle ran off of the roadway and struck a ditch causing it to overturn

Lopez completes course to help veterans, military personnel

Sunrise Realty in Abbeville announced today that it’s fulltime sales agent, Brittney Lopez, has completed the required hours of training and orientation to become a certified graduate of “Boots Across America.”
“Boots Across America” is a national certification course which educates loan officers, realtors, and housing professionals on how to work with military clients.
