The Vermilion Parish Police Jury and the Vermilion Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness have introduced a new alert system known as Rave, designed to keep residents informed and safe in a hurricane or other emergencies requiring immediate attention. This system, similar to Nixle, which was the old system, is also used by different government agencies on a larger scale, including the Louisiana Governor’s Office of Homeland Security, providing you with real-time updates.
Residents can quickly sign up for parish-wide text alerts by sending the word “Vermilion” to 77295. These alerts will be delivered straight to their phones, ensuring they receive crucial information promptly.
Those interested in town-specific alerts can receive updates tailored to your area, such as Abbeville, Erath, Kaplan, Maurice, Delcambre, and Gueydan. While the municipalities are still working on getting information directly to their towns, currently, the only way to receive town-specific alerts is by downloading the Smart911 app. Once on the app, residents can choose their town and the form of notification they wish to receive, whether by text, email, or phone call. Scanning the provided QR code will direct you to your app store, regardless of your mobile device.
The new Rave system also ensures that those without cell phones can stay informed by notifying residents through landlines already in the Vermilion Parish 911 system.

Drivers in Abbeville should be aware of work that will be done on the Old Abbeville Bridge in downtown on Thursday.
According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), the La. Hwy. 14 Business at the Old Abbeville Bridge will have alternating lane closures on Thursday, June 20, from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., weather permitting.
The lane closures are necessary to allow crews to perform routine bridge maintenance. The road will be open to regular traffic with 12-foot lane restrictions on oversized loads passing through the work zone.
Emergency vehicles will have access to the area but may encounter delays.
