ABBEVILLE — Vernice Joseph “Kini” Miguez, 72, who died Monday, June 25, 2018 at Abbeville General Hospital.
Vernice is survived by his daughter, Joanne Anglin and her husband, Chris; son, Scott Miguez and his wife, Stephanie; grandchildren, Jackie-Sue, Braden, Tiffany, Kelsie, Logan, Gabriella, Colby. Caleb and Khloe; two sisters, Willie Mae Primeaux and Dorothy “Dot” Danos; and four brothers, Eulton “E. Paul” Miguez, Wilmer “Cowboy” Miguez, Ronny Miguez and Norris Miguez.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Avia Ortemond Beauxis; father, Vernice Ferdinand Miguez; and three brothers, Eddie Miguez, Whitney Joseph Miguez and Paul Miguez.

COW ISLAND — A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, June 29, 2018 at St. Anne Catholic Church honoring the life of Theresa Broussard Aucoin, 77, who died Monday, June 25, 2018 at Lafayette General Medical Center. She will be laid to rest at Harrington Cemetery with Reverend Matthew Barzare officiating the services.
She is survived by her two sons, Tim Marceaux of Forked Island and Jared Marceaux of Forked Island; two daughters, Kimberly Marceaux Theriot of Forked Island and Tess Monceaux and her husband, Troy Monceaux of Kaplan; one sister, Eula Mae Broussard LeBlanc of Forked Island; four grandchildren, Taryn Jenee Marceaux and her fiance', Stratton Doyle of Meaux, Laney Marceaux Gauthier and her husband, Ben Gauthier of Lexington, OK, Logan Schexnider of Kaplan, and Alex Schexnider of Kaplan; one great grandchild, Juniper Aucoin of Westlake; and several loved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raleigh Aucoin; her parents, Avery Broussard and the former Noelia Mire; and one brother, Edward Brian Broussard.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Ave., on Thursday, June 28, 2018 from 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 PM; Friday, June 29, 2018 from 8:00 AM until the procession departs for the church.

NEW ORLEANS—More face-to-face communication with the urban population is one of the strongest tools farmers can use to help public perception of the family farm, according to Bret Lee, 19, of Abbeville who took first place in the Talk Meet Contest at the 96th Annual Convention of the Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation.
The Vermilion Parish youth, who will be a sophomore in public relations at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette this fall, said Farm Bureau and other farm organizations can help bring this about by sponsoring more events for farmers to meet directly with consumers and help dispel myths and correct misinformation about today’s farming practices.
Other tools for more communication include social media, agri-tourism opportunities and farmer’s markets.
These points were echoed among the other nine presentations in this annual competition at the convention, which is for 15- to 19-year-olds. The subject they were to address was “How can Farm Bureau help the public perception of the family farm?”
Second place went to Wesley Adolph, 18, of Napoleonville in Assumption Parish, who will be a philosophy major at St. Joseph Seminary College in Covington this fall. The third-place winner was Bailey Ann Nelson, 19, of Lake Charles in Calcasieu Parish, who will be a sophomore in mass communication and agriculture education at McNeese State University in Lakes Charles this fall.
Lee competed in last year’s Talk Meet competition, but did not place. Over the past year he has developed his speaking skills as an ambassador with the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, traveling to Arkansas and Colorado.
“I have been involved in agricultural advocacy my whole life by being a member of 4-H and a contestant in the National Beef Ambassador contest,” said Lee, whose family operates a family farm. He plans to continue his advocacy for agriculture with a career in public relations.
