Bernice Landry Archer

ERATH – A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Bernice Landry Archer, 98, will be held at 2:00PM on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Fr. Andre Metrejean officiating. Interment will follow at Migues Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at David Funeral Home of Erath on Thursday, June 28, 2018 from 9:00AM until the time of the services with a recitation of the rosary at 11:00AM.
A native and resident of Erath Mrs. Bernice died at 8:02PM on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at Eastridge Nursing Center. Mrs. Bernice worked as a sales clerk until she was 88 years old. She was also known for her love of music.
She is survived by two sons, Curley Dartez and his wife Rose of Erath and Bob Dartez and his wife Jane of Abbeville; a daughter, Margarita Eady of Abbeville; nine grandchildren, Chris Dartez, Jerry Dartez, Stephanie Gaspard, Steve Kelly, Denny Dartez, Albert Eady, Bobby Eady, Debbie Hebert, and Mary Delahoussaye; and eight great grandchildren, Lauren Bergeron, Jake Dartez, Seth Veazey, Kennedy Kelly, Emerson Kelly, Cole Dartez, Alex Dartez, and Lane Gaspard.
She was preceded in death by her companion, J. D. Aucoin; her parents, Robert and Olita Suire Landry; her first husband, Relic Dartez; her second husband, Richard Archer; two brothers, Noe Landry and Edwin Landry; and three sisters, Lona Landry, Lilly Landry, and Mae Landry.
Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Dartez, Jerry Dartez, Jake Dartez, Steve Kelly, Denny Dartez, and Bobby Eady.
David Funeral Home of Erath at 209 E. Putnam St. (337)937-0405will be handling the arrangement.

Elrina Schexnayder Barras

DELCAMBRE – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Mrs. Elrina Schexnayder Barras, 89, at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church with Fr. Ed Degeyter officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Readings will be done by Aubreigh Benintende and Nicole Benintende.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until 2:45 pm on Tuesday with a Rosary at 11:00 am.
A native of Delcambre and resident of St. Martinville, Mrs. Barras passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Landmark of Acadiana Nursing Home with her family by her side.
Elrina was born on July 28, 1928 to the late Odeonce and Fedora Menard Schexnayder. She was a deeply devoted and faithful woman who offered her services to those in need. Elrina would often volunteer with ministry organizations. With them, she would travel to nursing homes and prisons where she would visit with residents, sing, and spread her faith. Elrina was also a dedicated public servant and worked with the Council on Aging as assistant manager for 15 years from 1977-1992. She greatly enjoyed playing Bingo and Pokeno with the other residence at Landmark of Acadiana. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend - Elrina will be truly and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her children, Rosemary Delahoussaye and husband Larry of St, Martinville, Lillie Barras of Abbeville, and Kent Barras of KS; step-children, Darryl Barras of Abbeville, Gerald “T-Beb” Barras of Delcambre, and Anna Viator and Delcambre; brother, Maurice Schexnayder of TX; sister, Anna Mae Dore and husband Jules of St. Martinville; grandchildren, Stevie Barras, Nicole Benintende and husband Bobby, Kevin Delahoussaye and wife Kim, Jude Barras and wife Nina, Kimberly Barras, Jason Barras, Shawn Barras, and Chris Barras; and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Paul Barras; sons, Vernon Barras and John Barras; step-son, Donald Barras; step-daughters, Mona Faye Barras and Belva Landry; grandchild, Keith Barras; brother, Joseph Schexnayder; sister, Theresa Trahan; and parents, Odeonce and Fedora Menard Schexnayder.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Delahoussaye, Larry Delahoussaye, Bobby Benintende, Jude Barras, Jules Dore, and Shawn Barras.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Watson Delahoussaye, Warner Delahoussaye, Ashton Benintende, Stevie Barras, and Aubreigh Benintende.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Landmark of Acadiana for their support and caring. They sincerely referred to Mrs. Barras as “Mom” and treated her like family. Appreciation also goes out to the staff and nurses of Grace Hospice who were there with Mrs. Barras until the end.

Bank Of Erath sponsors Annual Erath 4th of July Celebration

For many years, the Bank of Erath has sponsored and participated in the Erath Fourth of July celebration.
Each year, the bank makes a monetary contribution to the Association and many of the Bank’s employees volunteer their time and efforts to work the ticket booths at the fair and festival. Their dedication to the community festival has been significant over the years. Cheney Desormeaux, Vice President and Branch Manager of the Erath Branch, has donated her time and efforts to this project on the Board of Directors of the Erath 4th of July Association. Lauren Theriot, an employee of the Bank, is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Association. The Bank of Erath is proud to sponsor and contribute its time and effort to this worthy cause.

Charlotte Detraz seeks election to District E seat on Vermilion Parish School Board

I, Charlotte C. Detraz, seek the community’s support to elect me as District E School Board Member in the November 2018 election.
A life time resident of Vermilion Parish and over 51 years of serving the people of Vermilion Parish puts me in a direct position to serve the children and teachers in our public school system.
I hold a B.S. degree from ULL. I am a Nationally Accredited “Registered Health Information Administrator.” I offer years of administrative experience.
My goal is to bring good communication skills to our present school board and together work respectfully to solve problems that presently are standing in our way.
Public education is one of the most solid foundations of our society. Teachers are our greatest public servants and the heart of the educational system. There is nothing more important than our students.
My goal is simply to “Work Hard for the Children.”

Chase Michael Romero

ERATH – Funeral services for Chase Michael Romero, 22, will be held Monday June 25, 2018 at 1:00 PM in David Funeral Home of Erath, with Todd Menard  Pastor of Family Life Church of Lafayette officiating.
Visitation will be held Sunday June 24, 2018 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will resume Monday from 9:00 AM until time of services. Burial will follow at a later date.
Chase was an avid outdoors man he loved to hunt fish and frog. He worked to be able to do what he loved. He had a gentle soul that would help anyone whether it be a friend or someone on the side of the road. He admired his older brothers whom inspired him so much! He looked up to them. Chase especially loved spending time with his nieces and nephews. Chase will always be remembered for his love of life and living that life to the fullest.
Chase is survived by his parents Ricky and Sally Falgout Romero of Youngsville; the love of his life Sydney Bourque; two brothers Blake and his wife Michelle Romero of Maurice, and Aaron and his wife Amanda Romero of Carencro; his paternal grandmother Beverly Romero of Youngsville: his nieces and nephews Ella, Carter, Beau, and Catherine Romero; a very special aunt Amanda Baker.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Carrol  Falgout and Elva Barras paternal grandfather Willis Romero.
Serving as pallbearers will be Blake Romero, Aaron Romero, Victor Debetaz, Rene Toups, Cameron Hebert, Luke LeBlanc, Dylan Falgout, and Kendall Gaspard. Honorary pallbearers will be Spence Falgout, Carter Romero and Beau Romero.

Vermilion Sheriff’s Office investigating shooting death of 24-year-old Abbevlle man

According to Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon at approximately 6:38 a.m. this morning deputies responded to a call of a black male subject lying on the shoulder of Lormand Road just south of Maurice.
Upon arrival, officers observed a deceased male subject with multiple gunshot wounds to the body.
The deceased victim has been identified as 24-year-old Stephain Brailey of Abbeville.
Sheriff Couvillon says that detectives are actively and aggressively investigating this homicide and are attempting to determine the motive into the shooting.
