Vermilion Parish Tournament Bracket released for this week

On Sunday night, the parish basketball coaches voted on who were going to be the top seven seeds.
On the girls side, North Vermilion, who is 6-0, got the No. 1 seed and will draw a bye on Thursday.
On the boys side, Abbeville received the No. 1 seed and also got a bye.
The tournament will be held at North Vermilion High gym and North Vermilion Middle School gym.
It will begin on Thursday and conclude on Saturday in the NV High School gym.
The cost is $6 and each person will be given a bracelet, letting them go in both gyms.

Erath Cross Country Team finishes second

Vermilion Catholic too much for Erath

The Vermilion Catholic Lady Eagles had too much experience on the floor against the Lady Bobcats of Erath, who have a new head coach and a handful of new starters.
The Lady Eagles (1-0) beat Erath 57-27 in Erath.
It was Erath’s new head coach Dana Mouton Frederick’s first game at Erath against legendary VC head coach Kim Guidry.
The Lady Eagles jumped out to a 14-4 first quarter lead and never looked back. At halftime, VC led 26-10.
VC point guard Jay Demouchet and post player Kelli Frith both had 14 points.

Zontre Scott goes up for a layup for Abbeville. He finished with 15 points.

Abbeville Wildcats cruise to victory over Franklin

The Abbeville Wildcats jumped out to a 15-0 lead in the first period and cruised to a 71-52 win over Franklin on Tuesday to tip off the new year.
Franklin did not score its first point until there were only 3:39 left on the clock in first period. And that bucket was only a free throw. Franklin finally scored its first bucket at the three-minute mark of the first period.
Abbeville’s Tyrese Sam provided the spark in the first quarter with 11 points. He finished the game with 20 points. Back-to-back 3-pointers by Tarrius Campbell and Sam made it 13-0.
