VC stuns Catholic High on the road

NEW IBERIA - The Vermilion Catholic Eagles did something that not many teams, which are not named Notre Dame, can do.
Under head coach Brent Indest, the Catholic High Panthers have only lost to two teams on their home turf during the regular season. The teams were Notre Dame and Patterson.
Well, Indest can now put the VC Eagles on that shortlist.
In a back and forth game, the Eagles upset the Class 2A Panthers, 43-32, on Friday.

North Vermilion's playmaker keeps everyone on their toes

LEROY - When you have a playmaker running your offense, everyone knows to be on their toes because you never know what could happen.
Darius Gilliam is North Vermilion’s starting quarterback. In Thursday’s season opener against the Abbeville Wildcats, Gilliam made things happen and helped NV win 30-7.

Vermilion Catholic/Catholic High matchup features two good quarterbacks

Tonight’s Vermilion Catholic/Catholic High football game is going to feature the two best quarterbacks in Acadiana who run contrasting styles of offense.
The VC Eagles (0-0) open the season on the road in New Iberia to play the Catholic High Panthers (0-0). The Panthers are coming off a 12-2 year and reached the finals of the Division III state finals two years in a row.
CHS has been able to have success because of their quarterback, Trey Amos. Amos, now a senior, committed to UL in August to play defense.

Science Academy visits Gueydan to open season

GUEYDAN - At the time, it looked like a good team to schedule, thought Gueydan head coach Roderick Moy.
Tonight the GHS Bears entertain the Science Academy Nautilus football team out of New Orleans. They are a Class 3A football team with just over 35 players. Last year they finished 3-7 and barley lost to Jeanerette 21-20 in the season opener.
Moy saw that the Science Academy football team was searching for pre-district opponents on the LHSAA website. He contacted them and set up a home and home matchup with them.

Erath at home; Kaplan travels to Franklin

Tonight’s game in Erath could be a long one.
Two of the top five quarterbacks from Acadiana will go head-to-head in Erath.
Ascension Episcopal Blue Gators travel to Erath tonight to open the season for both teams.
The Gators are coming off a 9-3 season and bring back eight starters on offense, including Cole Simon. Simon, a three-year starter, threw for 1,851-yards and 13 touchdowns last year. He completed 115 out of 203 passes.
Simon had the fifth-most passing yards in Acadiana.
