Vermilion Catholic senior Lewis Briggs Jr. (24) was named first-team All-District 7-A after averaging 16 points and 10 rebounds a game in district this past season.

Vermilion Catholic's Lewis Briggs named to District 7-A first team

Lewis Briggs Jr. of Vermilion Catholic was named to the Boys’ All-District 7-A basketball team by the league’s coaches.
His VC teammates Clent “C.J.” Briggs Jr. and Jonathan Dartez were second team picks and John Fontenot was an honorable mention to the All-District team.
Dartez also was named to the All-Defensive Team.
Lewis Briggs, a senior, averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds per game in district and had 30 assists and 50 steals.
Clent Briggs, also a senior, averaged 15 points and five rebounds a game and had 31 assists and 39 steals in district.

Erath, Abbeville players on Coaches All-State team

Erath’s Christian Pillette and Reese Domingue and Abbeville’s Tezarron Stewart were all named to the 2022 Louisiana Football Coaches Association Class 3A All-State first team.
Pillette, a junior, was one of four players selected as a tight end/wide receiver. Pillette had 44 catches for 843 yards and eight touchdowns on the season, leading Vermilion Parish in receptions, yards receiving and receiving touchdowns.
Domingue, a senior, was one of five offensive linemen named to the team.

Patriots beat Catholic-New Iberia after taking lead in 2nd

MAURICE — The North Vermilion Patriots got off to a strong start in beating Catholic High of New Iberia 13-6 in a non-district baseball game on Tuesday.
The Patriots scored on a single by Brandt Fontenot in the first inning, a single by Braxton Savant in the first inning, a single by Ian Erbe in the second inning, and a single by Tyson Leblanc in the second inning.
CHS scored four runs in the first inning, driven by William Minvielle’s single, an error on a ball put in play by Lane Fenske and a double by Landon Courville.

Walks, errors lead to 8-4 Erath loss to LCA

ERATH — The Erath High Bobcats had more than twice as many hits as Lafayette Christian in their non-district baseball game on Tuesday at Ross Granger Field, but eight walks and four errors were too much for the Bobcats to overcome in an 8-4 loss to the Knights.
LCA took advantage of two walks and an error that plated two runs in the top of the second inning, and a double by Grant Porche brought in two more runs later in the inning for a 4-0 lead.

Vermilion Catholic beat Breaux Bridge, 28-18

BREAUX BRIDGE — The Vermilion Catholic Lady Eagles claimed their first win of the season on Tuesday with a 28-18 shootout win at Breaux Bridge.
Vermilion Catholic trailed 8-6 after one inning but scored 12 runs in the second inning to lead 18-9 heading into the third. Breaux Bridge closed the gap to 20-15 after scoring six runs in the bottom of the third.
The Lady Eagles added eight runs in the top of the fourth inning and held BBHS to one run in the fourth and two in the fifth for the final 10-run mercy-rule win.
