Carlos L. Verette

Verette Promoted to U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant

Carlos L. Verette, a 2004 graduate of Abbeville High School, was recently promoted to Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. Verette joined the Air Force in 2005 where his job was in mechanical engineering. Master Sergeant (MSgt) is the third Non-Commissioned Officer rank in the United States Air Force. It is just above Technical Sergeant and below Senior Master Sergeant.
The promotion to Master Sergeant is known as one of the most significant promotions in the Air Force, and it is the point where an airman enters the Senior Non-Commissioned Officer tier.

Vermilion Parish Historical Society holds meeting

Vermilion Parish Historical Society held their quarterly meeting on April, 27, 2022 at the Vermilion Parish Main Library. The topics discussed were: inventory of the History of Vermilion Parish Vol II books; proposed Mural created by the Vermilion Arts Council, and election of officers. Peggy Ashley offered to give a tour of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church and update historical information on the church.

Gueydan Duck Festival brings home wins

BATON ROUGE - The Gueydan Duck Festival has once again carried home the ultimate prize ‘Festival of The Year’ for the fourteenth time.
Members of the Duck Festival Association recently attended the Louisiana Association of Fairs and Festivals Convention in Baton Rouge.
The members attended workshops and participated in round table discussions with other Louisiana Fairs and Festivals directors from throughout the State.
