On Oct. 5, former President Donald Trump historically returned to Butler, Pa. at the site he was nearly assassinated at on July 13, paying tribute to the fallen Corey Comperatore in a touching moment of silence with the race for Pennsylvania hanging in the balance, with the latest average of polls compiled by RealClearPolling.com showing the Commonwealth all tied up between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, with each garnering 48.2 percent.

Edwin Edwards for President?

Some of you older readers may recall the name of South Korean lobbyist Tongsun Park, a flamboyant international lobbyist who died this past week. Back in the 1970s, he was intricately involved in the politics of Louisiana. Then Governor Edwin Edwards was able to persuade Park to arrange for the Korean government to purchase millions of dollars in South Louisiana rice. Some would argue that if it were not for Edwards’ persuasive powers, Louisiana rice farmers would have faced a disastrous year. Instead, they made record profits.

What Friedrich Hayek, a young Austrian economist, witnessed during WWII in Germany and Britain was documented in his classic book ‘The Road to Serfdom’ published in 1944 for the benefit of a British audience. 80 years later, Hayek’s warnings are better suited for America as he saw that socialist planning results not only in the loss of economic freedom, but also the loss of intellectual and political freedom--as socialism turns into totalitarianism where coercion is necessary to implement the plans. Look at Russia, China, Cuba, Venezuela for proof.
