Resolution from City of Abbeville asks for completed study before dredging of river in Lafayette

A solution to a problem for one city could end up becoming a bigger problem for another.
That is the concern for officials with the City of Abbeville in regard to the Lafayette City-Parish Council’s decision to move forward with a plan for the dredging of the Vermilion River.

Abbeville Police investigating homicide

On Aug. 21, 2019 at approximately 6:09 p.m. officers of the Abbeville Police Department responded to a “shots fired” call near the intersection of Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive and S. Guegnon Street.
Responding officers located a male victim on the 800 block of S. Guegnon Street. The victim, Jacoby Lee, 22, of Abbeville, had been shot and later ran into a utility pole. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Vermilion Parish Coroner’s office.

Welcome to a special Sounds on the Square event on August 22, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. in Magdalen Square under the Oaks, featuring Cool Beats in the Sweet Summer Heat with Shelly Fairchild!
Fairchild was born in Clinton, Mississippi, to a musical family. She began performing at an early age at her church and later singing in her high school choir. During her college years she sang and performed, also traveling with the national touring company for “Beehive: The 60’s musical.”

Remembering Louisiana’s first female governor

Former Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco, Louisiana’s first female Governor, has died at the age of 76.
Governor Blanco will lie in state at Louisiana’s State Capitol in the coming days. The Governor’s office will release details soon.
Gov. Blanco made her presence known in Vermilion Parish. Erath Alderman Robert Vincent remembers Blanco.
