Tips through Crime Stoppers and the assistance of the Lafayette City Marshal’s Office resulted in the arrest of an Abbeville man for the theft of a bulldozer worth over $150,000, according to a news release from St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.
Arrested was Rickie John Richard, 40, of the 100 block of Jenni Lane, Abbeville. He is charged with one count of theft. Bail was set at $5,000.
The arrest stems from the July 22 complaint from a contractor working on Union Pacific Railroad property when his 2000 Komatsu bulldozer was stolen from a work location.

Qualifying for the Oct. 12 election kicked off Tuesday morning, with candidates entering numerous races in both Vermilion Parish and on the state level.
Qualifying will wrap up Thursday afternoon. Candidates interested in running for any of the offices for this election can officially qualify at Vermilion Parish Clerk of Court Diane Meaux Broussard’s office, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Broussard’s office is located on the first floor of the Vermilion Parish Courthouse in downtown Abbeville.

2. Antonio Gilbert, Auto Insurance Fraud, 5 years hard labor

3. John Nunez, Aggravated Flight, 10 months hard labor

4. Desmond Young, Attempted Molestation of Juvenile Under 13, Presentence Report ordered
