Before Hurricane Barry made landfall, Abbeville city workers had sandbags ready to hand out. When the storm arrived, most of the sandbags were given out.
There are still two months until the peak of hurricane season and the season doesn’t officially end until Nov. 30.
Being prepared remains important.
People in Vermilion Parish were definitely prepared prior to Hurricane Barry hitting the area this past weekend. A big part of that preparation included gathering sandbags.

GONZALES, La. — Results have been released from the 49th annual Louisiana 4-H and FFA State Horse Show held July 6 to 9.
Coordinated by the LSU AgCenter, the event was held at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center.
Premier Exhibitor awards sponsored by the Gerry Lane Foundation are given to participants who display a true knowledge of the horse program. Each exhibitor is tested on skills and knowledge of horses through an exam, interview and résumé.
VPSO went down flooded roads looking for families who needed
rescue.
The VSPO rescue unit rescued animals like these goats who were stranded in high water.
After landfall, the Sheriff’s Office began high water assessments throughout the parish which is still ongoing through Monday. For 48 hours nonstop, they were in search and rescue mode looking for opportunities to rescue or help anyone in need.
They made two rescues, one in Intracoastal City, and another of St. Elmo road. They also rescued a heard of goats, that was about to drown.
