Prepare livestock for Tropical System

BATON ROUGE – A tropical system is threatening Louisiana and heavy rain could fall in some regions of the state starting today.
“While this storm is still unorganized, we are urging everyone to prepare for possible heavy rain and flooding in parts of the state that may be impacted. Please monitor your weather forecasts and prepare to move your livestock and equipment to higher ground, if necessary,” said Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) Commissioner Mike Strain, D.V.M.

Hurricane threat increasing for entire region

According to Roger Erickson of the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, a hurricane threat is increasing for our entire region.
The exact timing, location, intensity, and specific threats are still developing.
People should be prepared for hurricane-force winds by Saturday, with tropical storm force winds starting on Friday.
Rainfall totals will be 10 to 15 inches along and to the right of the path. This will result in significant flooding.
Storm surge could be significant along coastal areas, depending on the strength of the storm.

Abbeville delegation to meet with Sister City; Broussard will lead a small delegation to Tracadie-Shelia

During the CMA 2019, Councilman Brady Broussard, Jr. will lead a small delegation from Abbeville to visit its sister city.
On August 21, the delegation will meet with Mayor Dennis Losier of Tracadie-Sheila in New Brunswick, Canada. The two officials will be renewing the sister city agreement along with their commitment to continuing exchanges.
“I’m bringing a proclamation from the City of Abbeville to renew our alliance,” says Councilman Broussard.

Sheriff makes arrests for illegal tire dumping in Vermilion Parish

According to Sheriff Mike Couvillon, after months of investigative work, the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested Juan Carlos Montiel (Hispanic/Male DOB – 4/3/1988) of Larose, Louisiana for the illegal dumping of waste tires in Vermilion Parish.
On July 3, 2019, Montiel was arrested on four counts of Disposing of a Hazardous Substance (Waste Tires) and one count of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Juvenile.

Kaplan man Killed in Acadia Parish Crash

CROWLEY – At approximately 5:20 pm on July 4, 2019, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash on LA Hwy. 13 near Airport Road in Acadia Parish.
The crash took the life of 26-year-old Harley Romine of Kaplan.
The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Romine was driving a 2005 Buick Rendezvous northbound on LA Hwy. 13. While traveling northbound his vehicle ran off the roadway. Upon doing so, the Buick overturned several times.
