DOTD offering to repair South Broadway if Erath takes over road

The Erath Aldermen will have a significant decision to make at next month’s meeting.
The five aldermen will have to decide if they want the town of Erath to inherit South Broadway Street (La. 685) and Lastie (the old Highway 14) from the state.
The Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is in the process of trying to give away certain state highways to municipalities or government entities. One of those state highways is South Broadway, which runs through the town of Erath.

Abbeville awarded Cleanest City State title

The City of Abbeville has been named in District III the Cleanest City in the State by the Louisiana Garden Club Federation.
Mayor Mark Piazza and member of the Abbeville City Council accepted the State Title plaque Friday morning.
Abbeville competed in Category G which included Abbeville, Bogalusa, Jennings, Pineville, Reserve and West Monroe.

Vermilion Parish graduates among record LSU class

BATON ROUGE – LSU graduated its largest and most diverse class ever at the university’s 298th commencement exercises on Friday, May 10.
At the spring commencement ceremony, a record 4,442 degrees were awarded, including several to graduates from Vermilion Parish.

Nancee Sorenson named Chancellor of LSU Eunice

BATON ROUGE – Nancee Sorenson has been selected as the next chancellor of LSU Eunice, LSU President F. King Alexander announced. Sorenson is currently the president at Hillsborough Community College, Brandon Campus.
“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Nancee Sorenson to LSU Eunice and the LSU leadership team,” Alexander said. “There are a lot of great things happening at LSUE, and we are excited to have Dr. Sorenson build on that momentum.”

Upon the recommendation of the Vermilion Parish School Board, Sheriff Michael A. Couvillon announces scholarship recipient of the Louisiana Sheriffs Honorary Membership Program

Sheriff Michael A. Couvillon is happy to announce Lainey Trahan of Vermilion Parish has been named the recipient of an academic scholarship from the Louisiana Sheriffs' Scholarship Program for the 2018-2019 school year.
She is a student at Abbeville High School and plans to attend Southeastern Louisiana University and pursue Social Sciences / Psychology as a field of study. Her parents are Daniel Trahan and Leslie Theresa Hardy.
