New Erath mayor Taylor Mencacci

Mencacci wins as new mayor of Erath

The town of Erath will have a few new faces in city government.
For starters, the town will have a new mayor. Alderman Taylor Mencacci easily beat incumbent John Earl LeBlanc, 601 votes to 283.
Anna LaPointe will remain as the Chief of Police in Erath. She beat Bart Bouillion 619 votes to 268 votes.
In the aldermen’s race, there are also plenty of new faces. Four out of the five aldermen are new.
For starters, Erath has a new mayor pro tem. Jason Connor, a new comer to politics, finished with the most votes of 594 votes.

Delcambre to begin installing meters

Delcambre residents and visitors will soon see construction underway in the city and are asked to be cautious and courteous while traveling in the construction zones.
On Monday morning, the water meter project will be underway, a process that has taken years to be put into motion.
Mayor Pam Blakely told KLFY-TV that this project is a positive change that the city and its residents need.

Drug Take Back Day nets 70 pounds of pills

The Vermilion Municipal and Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force conducted a Drug Take Back Day in conjunction with the DEA to remove unused prescription pills from possibly ending up in the hands of those with ill intent.
Agents set up at two local Pharmacies and collected more than 70 pounds of pills.
Vermilion Parish Sheriff Couvillon said he wants to thank the people of Vermilion Parish for their continued support in keeping our parish a safe place to live, and raise families.

Sam Guarino Blacksmith Shop Museum open for Giant Omelette Celebration

The Sam Guarino Blacksmith Shop Museum will be open on Saturday, Nov. 3, in conjunction with the Giant Omelette Celebration.
Please stop for a step back into time if you would like to view the interior of the historic blacksmith shop.
It will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Blacksmith Shop is located at 304 S. State Street in Abbeville.

The party barge is a 2012 Sun Tracker.

Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office looking for information on stolen party barge

The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of a 2012 Sun Tracker aluminum party barge, which was stolen off of U.S. Hwy. 167 in the Maurice area.
The party barge was stolen sometime between Oct. 27 and Oct. 29.
If you have any information about the theft of this party barge, please contact the Vermilion Parish Sheriff Criminal investigation Office at 337-898-4403.
